Hey guys, I've decided to start a journal to log my progress with the rippetoe workout plan.

Keep in mind Im a smaller guy at 5'6, 165 lbs and Im just starting so the weight is not very high.

1/2/08 Workout 1:
Squat: 125lbs 5/5/5
Bench: 120lbs 5/5/5
Deadlift: 135lbs 5/

1/4/08 Workout 2:
Squat: 135lbs 5/5/5
Standing Military Press: 85lbs 5/5/5
Pendlay Rows: 115lbs 5/5/5

1/7/08 Workout 3:
Squat: 145lbs 5/5/5
Bench: 130 lbs 5/5/5 (Bar speed was VERY slow on the last rep of the last two sets)
Deadlift: 150lbs 5/

1/9/08 Workout 4:
Squat: 155lbs 5/5/5 (This felt like a ton)
Standing Military Press: 95lbs 5/4/3 (too much weight. will probably try this weight again on monday)
Pendlay Rows: 115lbs 5/5/5 (Did this weight again to make sure I had my form right)

Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

keep it going bro 5x5 gave me lot of strenght but no mass at all :S

and your squat and deadlift weighs will grow up a way faster than ur other lift :)

when i started 5x5 i did
bench:145x5
squat:175lbs
deadlift:190lbs

and like 8-10 week after
bench:185lbs
squat:245lbs
deadlift:260lbs

so keep lifting hard eat alot and get good sleep around 8-10 hour a day

wow, awesome results man. I got my first big confidence boost today when I looked in the mirror after my workout and saw some vascularity in my chest for the first time in my life. My abs are also starting to show through a little more through my gut. Im thinking of doing 40 minutes to an hour of cardio on all my non-lifting days.

I ate 3000 calories today for the first time while doing this workout plan hoping that it will help out my lifts tommorow. Damn it was hard to eat this much...

At some point your going to have to eat over that. I have always wanted to try it but never have since I love milk, but drinking a gallon a milk a day will help out alot in the calorie and protein department. If your stomach can handle it.

1/11/08 Workout 5:
Squat: 165lbs 5/5/5
Bench: 135lbs 5/4/3 (Do this weight again next wednesday?)
Deadlift: 165lbs 5/5 (Did an extra set of 5 because they felt good and to make up for my shitty bench.)

I would not do the same weight again, unless you struggled so bad that you dont think you can move up five pounds.

1/14/08 Workout 6:
Squat: 185lbs (Went up 20lbs from last workout on accident, oops.) 5/5/5 This squat session hurt like a mother fucker and i ended up arching my back a little on the last set. I still got all the reps in though. I figured out i was doing 10 more lbs than I was supposed to half way through my sets, lol.
Standing Military Press: 95lbs 5/5/5 First two sets were harder than the last one for some reason, I dont know why. It felt good to throw this much up over my head though.
Pendlay row: 125lbs 5/5/5

Overall this workout kicked my ass and I cant wait to get back in the gym wednesday.

1/16/08 Workout 7:
Squat: 195lbs 5/5/5 GOD DAMN I love me some squats.
Bench: 140lbs 5/4/3 Still lagging a little on my bench but Im slowly makin progress
Deadlift: 185lbs 5/ Jumped up 20 lbs from my last deadlift and it felt great.

1/18/08 Workout 8:
Squat: 205lbs 5/4/2 Combination of lack of sleep and not eating right :(
Military Press: 105lbs 5/5/5
Pendlay Rows: 135lbs 5/5/5

1/21/08 Workout 9:
Squat: 215lbs 5/5/5 (I didn't go down passed parallel this time instead of going ATG and i got all 15 reps)
Bench: 150lbs 3/2/2 (Should I go up 10 pounds on friday or no? Input would be appreciated!!)
Deadlift: 225lbs 5/5

I didnt bring my previous workout's notes so I forgot what i was doing for deadlift so i went up 40 lbs from my last deadlift. It felt good enough to do two sets of 5 though so I think I'll be okay.

i think you mentioned vascularity in one of your posts, the 5x5 will give you strength and mass but certainly not to much vascularity especially with no cardio and a 3000+ calorie diet imho..
