School shooting in New York

Got this off of AOL news. Hope it helps.
NEW YORK (AP) - Two students were seriously wounded Tuesday in a shooting in a high school.
The shooting happened a few minutes before 2 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. High, a public high school on Manhattan's Upper West Side near Lincoln Center.
``We were in school and we heard two gunshots,'' said Romain Morrison, 17, a senior at the high school. She said she initially thought she had heard slamming doors. ``They were telling everyone to get out of the hallways.''
The two injured boys were transported to St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan.
Bill McCann, a spokesman for the hospital, said both victims were in serious condition and were being evaluated in the emergency department.
``We've got two 16-year-olds. One was shot in the upper left part of his back. The other one was shot in the upper left buttocks,'' he said.
McCann said he could not release the students' names because of their ages.
The school was locked down, with students kept in their classrooms, as police swept the building for any suspects, police said.
The school is on Amsterdam Avenue about two blocks from Lincoln Center. The Board of Education did not immediately return a call for comment.
Morrison said after the shooting, many students ``just figured out for themselves'' and left the building. Police kept onlookers across the street from the school.

Also, I wonder if the shooters even purchased their firearm through legal channels?
If not, then the information will probably not even be released to the public.
If so, it certainly will be, no doubt!! It will probably be the topic of controversy for months...if there was a certain reason why these people had guns, expect it to be banned or heavily regulated. However,maybe not as bad as it would if bush were not president

Nothing much... some kids got a hold of guns due to their irresponsible parents and there were no armed adults around to protect the innocent.
Your typical school shooting. Imagine how many fewer school shootings we'd have if the teachers could pull a 9mm out of the drawer when shit went down.

Thousands, if not millions( I would like to see the statistics?) of people are fatal victims because America allows people to drive and now 2 people get wounded and were worried about guns! I would bet more folks under 18 were fatal victims of because automobiles are not outlawed. Probably more people in one day are killed due to automobiles than guns in one year--in America.

Ok, I have never been to the UK, but I am pretty sure that people are different in the concrete jungle over here in our 'highly diversified' metroplolitan areas than they are over in the United Kingdom.

Liberals turn to gun Control b/c they dont want to take the effort to find the real source of the problem. plus it is a stance that they know will eventually be easy to market to the average joe American and they know that the conservatives will look like the bad guy in the end.
Go ahead take away all of the guns---what you will have is a bunch of armed crminals commiting more crimes than ever against law abiding citizens that are unarmed, and now more vulnerable than ever.
If you ever have the opportunity to look at an NRA magazine--check out the armed citizen section at the first of the mag.
This section includes approx 10-20 articles every month about gun owners protecting their family and their very lives with the use of fire arms.

Never heard of it...but sure doesnt surprise me.....
Where do kids get such easy access to guns???? Its unbelievable.....I swear any 14 year old who wants to get his hands on a gun could probably do so by then end of the day!!
Something really has to be done....I dont know what, but something because whatever is being done now (if anything) sure isnt working.....
People complain about guns being taken away....but how many people who LEGALLY have guns use them?? How much?? And when??? How many kids who have guns use them??? A whole lot more!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because you hear about EVERY school shooting. As a matter of fact, the safest place a child can be is in school. Also, shootings in general are extremely rare when compared to the primary causes of maiming/death in the United States. People dying of heart disease doesn't make the news because it's commonplace, firearm violence does because it's relatively rare, ban trans fatty acids damn it!
I grew up in a rural community where most families owned multiple firearms, we had two handguns, three shotguns and two rifles. In high school most of the kids had ready access to firearms, deer hunting is very popular, and there has NEVER been a shool shooting or a firearm incident with teens. It's not like my school was tiny, 210 in my graduating class and the school population has only been growing since I graduated. Likewise, there has only been one murder in the entire county in the past sixty years and that was a strangulation/beating death. The fact is, people are the ones who make firearms dangerous and culture/upbringing plays the greatest part.
On a side note, one of my law professors was doing research on gun control and discussed with us the incidents of "hot burglaries" in countries with strict gun laws. Basically, a hot burglary occurs when the burglar robs the house while the residents are present. The rates in countries with strict laws is astronomical compared to the US, it isn't unknown for a burglar to walk in during dinner and walk out with your T.V., freakin hilarious.
