i have seen several big bad creatures but snakes are too much for me...

was out in hills (between Az and cali) hiking and saw 3 rattle snakes and well i almost fried right there...just backed off slow and got the F out..

I came face to face with a black bear at about 5 feet one night while leaving the woods after bowhunting that day. Me and two other buddies, literally crawling through thick mountain laurel, holding our bows with our treestands on our backs. I was leading and as usual we wound up going through the thickest stuff on the way out. I saw what I thought was a shadow and I kept shining my flashlight at it trying to see what was making such a funny looking shadow when it turned around and looked right at me. Talk about scared! My buddies didn't believe me when I told them what was right in front of me, so they pushed up on my back to see for themselves.....then the guy in the back starts yelling at it. The bear just walked off like he was pissed that we were making him take a different route. We laugh about it now, but I was pretty scared when it happened.

Mountain Lion outa nowhere (I wasn't hunting).
I found out why the Catskill Mountains got that name.
Kattaskill, Dutch for "land of streams and cats"
Grandfolks live there 'bout 20 minutes from Hunter, NY.

Seen brown and black bears.
I still have never seen a rattle snake in the wild.

I've stepped on a lot of snakes, rattlers mainly. Gotta love early bow season in Mississippi. When I was in NC, I saw a black bear with her cub, which was a little scary because that maternal instinct can be enough to make them charge you. I don't think I could have put enough Easton 2213's in her to stop her from doing me in if that's what she would have decided she wanted to.

I don't have a problem with snakes as long as I can see them. I've stepped on several moccasins while bank fishing. That will make you do a two step dance trying to get out of the way. As soon as you step on them, you know what it is and you have to move out fast.

Came across numerous rattlesnakes. When you are in the woods and one of those starts to rattle, it's almost impossible to pinpoint them. Freaky.

Came across a wild hog one day in the swamp but was far enough away to not be startled....just leery.

That's about it. :)

Yes they can. I do not hunt them but I have friends who do (bow hunt) and they have some stories to tell. I would hate to come across one when either one of us are not expecting each other. That would suck.

The snakes and stuff don't bother me too much. I took on a moccassin when I was 12 and he won. I ended up in the hospital, so I have become very aware around them and gained a lot of respect for them. We had a black bear walk right up to our fire pit with us around it once. That was pretty weird. We didn't know what to do really, so we all sat really still and he just paused a bit and then went on his way. We all had to change our drawers though. The scariest though was a wolverine. I live in one of the northern US states but in the southern end of it. We have these old unused railroad tracks that we always used to walk on when we were kids. There was this huge rock that everyone carved their names into and shit. It was just a cool place to hang out. Anyways, my older bro and I and some friends were walking towards the rock when suddenly this little bear looking thing came flying out of the bushes onto the tracks in front of us. We all kind of yelled "What the fuck???" and it took off into the bushes. We couldn't believe that is was truly a wolverine because the climate isnt' right for them by us. So we called the DNR when we got home and told them. They went out there, set some traps and within two days had caught the little guy. Apparently it wasn't the first one to be found in our area. I guess sometimes they get messed up and travel too far south. Creepy looking little bastard though.
