prostate enlargement and urinary tract symptoms of frequent urination, incontience(peeing when you don't want to) and difficulty urinating, seem to be a right of passage into the old age.some bodybuilders who take anabolic steriods develop enlarged prostates in there 20's and 30"s.fifty percent of men have the problem by age 50 and the incidence increases with age. many men take saw palmetto supplements to prevent prostate problems or to shrink enlarge prostates. researchers from the university of california, san francsico medical school, led by stephen bent, found that patients who took saw palmetto(160 miligrams twice a day) for 12 months showed no improvement in symptoms of prostate enlargemnt compared to patients taking a placebo. obesity is a leading risk factor for prostate enlargement and it may interact with estrogen to make the predicament worse. overweight, anabolic steriod users convert some of the hormone to estrogen, which may place them at risk for prostate enlargement. higher levels of blood testosterone in older men decrease the risk of prostate problems. obesity tiggers insulin release. insulin is powerful anabolic hormone that can stimulate prostate growth. reduce the risk of prostate cancer by not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, drinking alcohol moderately(1 to 2 drinks daily)and eating a low-fat diet high in antioxidants(plenty of fruits and vegetables).

There are tons of other studies showing that it does help with prostate issues. Notice that your study didn't say it didn't help with frequent urination. Guess they forgot to address the other issues???

im not disagreeing with you bro, but ive worked at GNC for over 2 years and I think Saw Palmetto plays a huge role in helping keep a healthy prostate. first of all, the DHT is what causes the enlarged prostate problems mostly, maybe estro does but I haven't read where it causes the symptoms more than DHT . Also that is just one study you found and you cant always go with that . you can find many more studies saying it helps instead of not. heres a quick link

It's helped me, but if its placebo, its a cheap placebo...so no harm, no foul.

the ones that disagree its not my study i just posted it. i just found it interesting that there can be studies on the same supplement that prove to be different, yes or no who to believe

I think nettle root has been found to help with the oestrogen effect on the prostate. Probably worth a Google for the interested.
