Saturday rant: reason for homicide
I want to kill a co-worker.
My only hope is to vent enough rage here to prevent going postal.
I'm a database administrator; it's my job to backup and protect the integrity of the database
and I'm supposed to be the only one that makes changes to the production system.
Those are the rules, everybody knows it.
I've got a programmer that's been making changes on a test system.
He's ok as a programmer but he's not trained to do my job.
Friday afternoon, 3pm, while I'm in a meeting,
he logs onto the production system and moves his changes.
Since he maintains the application, he knows the connect passwords, but isn't supposed to use them.
He totally fucks it up.
He drops a production table and didn't export the data to a backup first.
I'm NOT angry he made a mistake. I'm angry he was doing MY job!
And didn't even bother to discuss it with me first!
Then, (4:30pm on a Friday!) he dumps it in my lap to fix!
So my weekend is totally screwed.
I'll be here the next 6 hours restoring the database...
Another 4 hours to roll forward the transaction logs...
Then I can move his changes into production properly.
Don't look at this dot .
That's an incredibly powerfull hatefull little dot.
I'm putting all my emotion into that dot and setting it loose.
Don't focus on the dot, I'd hate you to catch it.
I feel better. Peace.
