has anyone tried this? i hear it is good for mood stabilization without side effects like weight gain. However it is expensive as fuck, at least for a college student. It runs about $3 a day to get enough to work.

I tried it lots of hype 400+mgs a day for a month, I honestly didn't notice much for pains and well being as it claims.

I noticed a little buzz from 400mg in one shot, kind of like ECA or NYC without the crash, but I got better mood elevation and craving reduction (which in turn led to weight loss) from 150mg of 5-HTP twice daily. My mom swears by Sam-e, however.

well, 2 things are relevant.

1. I think that in alot of products you only get 1/2 the advertised active ingredient due to some stabilization thing i don't understand. A 400mg pill may only have 200mg of stabilized SAM-e in it.

2. Supposedly it takes 800-1600mg of stabilized SAM-e a day to notice a change.

So if you two were only taking 400mg a day, you might have only been on 200mg a day, not enough for mood elevation.

wow, maybe have to keep taking I still got a about 20 400mg tabs and could use a mood elevator.
I know it was prescribed in Europe more than Prozac for depression and sore joints. 2 good things, it's even supposed to cleanse body somehow I believe.

I'd never heard that about Sam-e, but it's definitely a possibility.

Another possibility is that it works best in people who are dopamine-deficient, while 5-HTP (my antidepressant of choice) works better in people who are serotonin-deficient. Unless you know which category you fall into, it seems like an awful lot of money to splash out for Sam-e.

got mine at a Sam's Walmart. When I first heard you could get "Sam-E" at walmart I thought it was a Sam Walton (Walmart product by its name) but did some research, lol

well, all the info i've read says take 800mg a day minimum, up to 1600mg. They never say if that is 800mg of pills (4 200mg pills) or 800mg of active ingredient (8 200mg pills). I'm pretty sure its 4 tablets, so my above post is wrong. I'd only take 800mg of tablets a day. You are supposed to combine them with a B vitamin too.

Alpha Lipoic Acid seems to be helping me with my depressiveness. And it only costs 20 cents a pill.

Assuming you only need 4 pills a day, that is a 2 month supply.

from personal exprience i can tell you sam-e is very mild as far as mood enhancement, i used 200mg to begin with an noticed very little and then bumped it to 400mg and began feeling the effects of it. For some reason it has come to my attention that women seem to like this product and respond to it much better then men.

do you know that SAM-e has been shown to induce mania in manic depressive illness? i've been doing amateur research on it, and that keeps coming up. What also keeps coming up is that you need 800mg a day, minimum, for mood enhancement. 800-1600mg a day.

I might buy 240 capsules for $50, and try that. some guy on ebay is selling them for that price. Its about 30% what everyone else charges for it.

its never caused me to exprience a manic episode, only drugs which have ever caused that in me have been Testosterone in doses exceeding 400mg/week and Lithium( mainly because i would brew inside as i was unable to be as expressive as i wanted to be, shit turned me into a vegetable for a while especially at the doseage i was on)

I found a source for 200mg pills @ 15 cents each on ebay, so i am sitting pretty if i need a long range source. If that is stabilized, then i am only paying $18-$36 a month.
