Now I'm doing awesome, better then I ever have, closing like I've been doing it forever, but it's only actually been 3 months, I'm always looking for ways to improve.

Even though thier is that old adage don't fix it, if it isn't broken!

I still want to get better and learn different angels and techniques, so any great reads that have helped you guys, I'd seriously consider purchasing.

Or anything that has helped your sales career spiral upwards let me know, thanks guys.
 
just keep doin what ur doin....

best thing is experience. u will learn from yourself. if u dont close someone figure out where u went wrong and fix it

the thing is everyone is different. so in time you will quickly learn figure out each and every potential sale from the get and know how to approach the person...

are u doing this over the phone or face to face?
 
If you want good books that are straight up about sales anything by Jeffrey Gitomer is good. You can also download his Sales Bible on audio.

I also just read another good book called Buyer Approved Selling.

There is also a forum at salespractice.com which has a lot of good stuff on it.

sales depends alot on the industry you're in. there are specific principles that can apply to everything, but i'd seek more industry specific knowledge...or at least a common sector (i.e. b2b, retail...high end, low end etc). Whether it's transactional or a relationship sale... There are alot of variables and it can require very different skillsets and approaches.

i'd try to find books or gurus that circulate around your specific industry. there's always sales guru for any type of major sales area.

the other thing you need to remember is no matter what sales books tell you, you will always have your own style. There are people who are very aggressive and are successful at it...there are also people who are extremely soft closers but still can close with that format. Others will be seen at gurus/extremely knowledgable and will close business that way...or you have the people that will buy from you just because they really like you. Point is, if it works, don't fuck with it too much. You also need to remember you need to evaluate your performance over the long term because you can often lose sales to stuff beyond your control no matter HOW good you are. So as long as your conversion rate over a long period of time is good, you don't need to alter much except in blatant cases where you lose sales (i.e. can't close properly when a customer is eager to buy)
 
You have two ears and one mouth for a reason.

^^^ Remember that, customer will ALWAYS tell you how to close them IF you are listening carefully enough.

Other than that - if it ain't broke.

old lady: why do i need this?
me: because you have hypertension?
old lady: i know but what do these do?
me: it keeps your veins from bursting
old lady: oh my god
me: ya but don't worry we caught your condition soon enough so as long as you take that you'll be fne
old lady: ok

anyway where was I going with this, ya before my career change i worked for a ford dealership, i'm not sure what field you're in but I never worried about sales theory like self help books and what not. Just look like a respectable, likeable and knowledgeable person, and above all don't give off the vibe that you would sell them their own shirt if given the chance, that's probable the biggest turn off to closing a deal, that and being overly outgoing.
 
SPIN selling is great providing your selling some kind of solution. Keeping up the postive happy vibe you got going now will also help big time.
 
Alot of solid advice.. lol as I was reading this a customer had called.. and asked if I still had this tanning bed left from the home show.. I had one left.. blah blah blah.. for X price.... they had talked to me about two weeks ago.. needless to say her husband is coming down to pay for it this afternoon..

I'd say almost half of my business is from be back clients, not that I enjoy TRUSTING the customer, because they are lying mother fuckers..

I've been doing sales for a long time, just not closing for a long time.. I spent about 3 years developing sales about 2 years ago and then just recently.. I got back into it.. and I'm closing like crazy.. It's hot Tubs, tanning beds, Gazebeos, Leisure stuff!

listen...REALLY listen, then go out of your way to make suggestions on item/model/options that suit WHAT THEY HINTED THEY WERE LOOKING FOR

come across as a guy who's really thinking about what they want/need, and that you're only going to sell them the item that's right FOR THEM...as opposed as coming off like someone who's trying to sell them something/anything

building that trust is the key
 
I kill my customers with kindness, put no pressure tactics on them, give them a fair value for what they are buying and 9 times out of 10 they buy from me.

That's the key to getting repeat business; when a customer is happy with what they were sold, the price they paid for it, and the service they got when they dealt with the salesperson...they have no reason to look elsewhere.

Customer loyalty is key.

Also, back to the listening part... if your customer is the kind that NEEDS a bit of high pressure, then do it. If he/she is the type that is soft-spoken, laid back then that is the approach that you take.

And QT is also correct about keeping up the positive vibe. The best time to make a close is right after you've just made one.

I like to think I know a little something about sales.

This book I highly recommend. It has helped me really increase my sales over the years. Also, it is a fun read!

You can't be much older than My Old Grump. He just told me that he once hired Zig Ziggler at one of his conferences when he was regional VP for Westinghouse about 100 years ago. LOL

Zigler a motivational speaker and a time management professional but regarding sales, he gives universal and very basic closing techniques. My Old Grump says that his approach is AWESOME when it comes to Mary Kay, real estate, order takers and the average sales person which = not a bad thing.

Now if one is talking lighting up a cigar with someone on the level of Donald Trump... Mr Zigler's approach wouldn't get past the first 5 minutes of conversation.

I LOVE flitting about in a man's world. :D
