Sailors' Scribble: Workout Routines at Sea

I just spent two weeks at sea for a military exercise. Nice living, a little cramped, great food. The gym was small, but a lot of good equipment, just have to get used to the rocking during high seas (standing overhead press became more of a clean and jerk movement, e.g.).

Some interesting workouts written on the mirror in grease pencil. House rules were you had to have the best score to be able to erase and replace with your own. Here's one that I liked:

Prisoner of War:
2 person workout
1 person runs on TM for 10 min while other does:
1 min 45 lb plate hold
10 pullups
15 atomic pushups
10 pullups
15 atomic situps
1 min 45 lb plate hold
5 rds for time

No, I stuck to my routines, but I wrote it down and I may try it later.

Atomic Pushup, I had to look up too. I think it comes from the NFL combine:

ATOMIC PUSH-UPS

With feet in straps eight inches off the ground, assume the push-up position. Do a standard push-up. Then, at a controlled, even speed, raise tailbone as high as possible, keeping legs straight and pulling the body into a pike position. Return to the push-up position. Two sets of 15. Benefits: Core strength as well as shoulder stability.

That link isn't working.

that's nuts; i can only imagine what atomic situps would be like. Brees is a good Austin bro, but lol he eats like nothing and drinks juice right b4 bed =/ He's gotta have some nice genetics

What you did IS not real sailing. You had motors to guide your way. :)

Try being at sea for an entire week hoisting sails, aweighing the anchor and "hard over" at the helm. :)

Another routine from the ship:

Happy Birthday

run .17 miles on TM as fast as possible
10 x 95 lb hanging snatch
15 x pushups
20 x box jumps
5 rds for time

Sounds like too much work, I'd rather let the Captain drive the ship

I can wring more salt water out of my socks than you've sailed on. I bet you are over six feet tall, so if you fall overboard you could wade to shore.

Red, do you sail?

I'm only 5 foot 4 too. :)
