Which one and why? I'm not talking cool factor I'm just talking practicality of a big bore.
Open to options but right now I'm thinking .454 Ruger Alaskan or S&W 500 w/ 6" barrel. (not the long ass one) .

Think damage vs shot follow up.

Yes I would probably hunt with it. Or side arm the Alaskan anyways. Also fun shoot. (old tv's fridge's ect)

I don't have any issues with mine. It's not something you'll be using a lot anyways aside from some weekend fun, so I have probably put less than 1,000 rounds through mine.

Ofcourse now I'm sitting here thinking that since I have a .357, and a pair of .44' s that maybe I should just stay .44 and get a 4" or so, so its more practical for other shit than the 7.5" or 8.25" . And I don't have yet another type of ammo to buy on top of .380, .40, .45acp, .357 and .44. Ughhhh

You're overthinking it dude. I did this to myself when I was wondering if I should carry something bigger than a 9mm. But I liked the capacity of the 9mm. After tons of reserch I decided to stick with the 9.

Both are good. But zwhit has a point the 454 is a little more versatile. Both will defend you from a bear.

Lol there is honestly nothing practical about them aside from being impressive, unless you live in an open carry state and value stopping power

The .454 shoots .45lc too, so its maybe a little more practical

I was way into this research 2 yrs ago. But in just about 5 min of reading I decided the .500 is out. EO basically its a should I get a .454 issue. Yeah I like the practicality of shooting .45 lc also. But by that token there's the XVR .460 that shoots .460, .454 and .45 lc.
