rye bread > wheat bread?

I saw an article or maybe I heard something on the news about how rye bread is better than wheat in that it causes less of an insulin spike...

can anyone here confirm or deny this?

Yup, but ditch it anyways.....bread = devil..............well, white bread for sure.....and that's USUALLY what wheat bread is......

Yep rye does have a lower GI rating. Its all I ever eat in terms of bread.

And saying bread is the devil is like saying all cars suck then what you really mean are Yugos suck. Some cars good, some bad, some really bad. Rye is a really good source for low GI carbs.

Should all bread be avoided when cutting or is it OK to have "some" bread now and then (maybe on higher carb work out days)?

Definitely keep it on workout days. You'll need the fuel and low GI carbs are the very best way to get it.

anyone ever try this "low-carb" bread from walmart?

it's 100% whole wheat- I grabbed the rye bread and compared labels to the low carb bread and the low carb bread won out.

Question though- even though the low carb bread has less carbs- the GI is till higher than rye, so which bread should I be eating?

Actually "real" rye bread is pretty low GI

But it should be pretty much dark, dense and really rich in fiber

but there are also other rye bread with low GI

How do you know if it's 'real'?? By getting it at an organic store?? Sorry if that's a dumb quesion...just confused...

1] First look at the label
you shouldn't see any sugar/HFCS/white flour/conservatives and other chemicals
the more processed the higher the GI

2]in a "good" bread there should not be any yeast but Levain (aka leavening or natural leavan)

3] in organic store breads are usually less processed, use natural leavan instead of chemical yeast

Lower GI, more fiber and healthier grain - much better.
