i'm sorry people pick on you, man. i really am. You are basically a good person and you deserve better than to always be humiliated.

RyanH is right on some things and wrong on others. Basically, he needs to think through his ideas, and try to apply them as generalizations to determine their validity. He also has a tendency to present an extremization of a valid argument as the only valid argument.

thanks for the concern, but I've never considered myself neither"humiliated' nor "picked on". In fact, if everyone liked me I would be concerned.

Ryan.

true, i don't always agree with his opinions either, but due to his social status people don't give him the usual respect they give to everyone else. People don't think twice about harassing him or bullying him for stuff they would just disagree with if anyone else wrote the post.

Fricken Frog sphincters! I see the Denutted discussions are still all the rage! Maybe I shall donate my third nard to end this pathetic festival of low Test!

yup. and it works too. This post was more about ryan not recieving the usual respect given to people.

From the things I've read of his, I think he is one of the few legit "intelligent" people here, juxtaposed to the cunning linguists -myself included.

you know, nordstrom, again I appreciate your concern. but I accepted a long time ago that dissenters will always be frowned upon? Why? Because often they often carry the truth, such as the death penalty is not a deterrent to crime or that Al Gore REALLY won the election.

you should read something by emile durkheim on the death penalty and social control. He offers an enlightening perspective on why the judicial system endorses punishment that has no deterrent or an active encouragement effect on crime.

Sounds very interesting. In general, what is the thesis?

that punishment is a tool to justify the existing status quo. The death sentence is a means of showing how valid the existing social order is by giving out extreme punishment to deviants.

Just a little friendly injunction here on y'alls discussion--

the death penalty is about justice, not deterance.

However, if it was carried out in a swift and certain matter in cases where guilt was certain, it would definitely make individuals think before they acted.

You made me do it. I couldn´t let this one slip, hunt.

What is "justice?":)

However, if it was carried out in a swift and certain matter in cases where guilt was certain
When is guilt not certain? If it´s not certain, isn´t that "not guilty?"
