Running over a cat

is running over a cat against the law....I feel so bad, I just ran over it , a while back...it was the cats fault..I was trying to swerve around it.....if anyone knows if this is against the law....should I go back and get it....should I call animal control....

Often times the owners will be searching for a missing pet for months. It would be good to go back and see if it has a collar. If it does it is right to call the owners and let them know what happened and where to find the body.

This will be very difficult but will provide the closure the mourning owners need.

Many pets are also equipped with a microchip and if taken to an animal shelter/the pound they can scan it and find out who it belongs to in order to notify the family.

Cats are as important as children to some people(including me) so consider that when thinking about this. And think about the fact that it may have come from a family with children.

Legally, you are fine. It was an accident. If you are truly sorry, just take the small amount of time to clear your conscience.

I have ran over over one before...actually...about 3 years ago. Noone ever came after me! I think you will be just fine.

A cat??
No, it's not illegal to accidently run over a cat.

It's illegal to deliberately harm any domestic animal though.

I shoot all the stray cats when I'm at the house in Utah.

Don't worry about it. They got seven lives. I've run over mine 4 times so far it it's doing OK.

Next time swerve into the direction of where the cat is rather than away from it you will probably miss it.

I flattened one last fall, it's a sickening feeling. But not nearly as bad as when I wacked a deer with my truck. That was more of a fuck that hurt! Feeling.
