I do once a week, its 3.25 miles each way. I jog it in, and interval out. Get quality shoes, it helps. I have my trail shoes and my treadmill shoes, they don't get used for anything else.
I think so long as you don't overdo it then it won't be too hard on the knees. Our legs are made to run after all. I know what you mean though about it being tough...sometimes it's hard to motivate yourself. That's why i'm only just starting up again.
Gonna do a couple of 20-30min runs per week. (This is just in between playing sport a few times per week and a bit of resistance training).

I used to do track workouts three days a week, but it's been so hot this summer and the air quality so bad, I just stay inside. My belly has made a return as a result.

I almost wish it was hotter here so it'd toughen me up a bit...it's too easy running in the evenings after work. Then when i go and sprint for hours in a match in the middle of the day i'm knackered.

Yeah, the pollution. It's been 100 or very close to it for over a month now, and we've had something like 500 square miles of wildfires in the state for the last couple of weeks. The mountains just keep it all in the valley.
