rubber stopper question

I just started to use an 18 gauge to draw my fluids from the vial. Since then I notice the "scar" on the rubber stopper was a bit bigger..can that cause a problem (contamination wise) ? Also, for those who bake their gear, does the rubber stopper melt at 250 degrees?

No they dont melt at 250, and alway make sure you clean the top of your vial everytime you draw.

yeh, the 18g will tear up the stopper, i've seen rubber parts floating in my gear before from this. I usually draw with a 22 now for this reason.

Hehehe, i hate drawing with a 22. Its like pulling a golf ball through a hose pipe.

18ga are pretty big. I use a 20ga without any trouble.

I ruined a bottle of my eq a while back. I was drawing with an 18 guage needle and the same thing happened to me. I had chunks of the stopper in the bottle. This is after drawing once lol. I noticed the oil dripping out of the bottle when I turned it upside down. Very irratating.

I always use an 18g to draw up fluids, rotate the injection point around in the stopper if it is giving you problems. It does tear it up a bit, so I always make sure I keep the bottles upright, as far as contamination, I wouldn't worry about it, as long as its not tossed into a drawer or something, if its upright and undisturbed, it will be fine.

Sometimes the stopper gets a little beat up, but i have never seen the bottle drip if turned upside down.

For me 21 guage works fine, plus I don't have to be concerned about tearing the stopper. Always be sure to clean the top of your bottles before drawing from them.

Mike I had only drawn from the bottle with an 18 guage once, I guess I went in at a bad angle. I was pretty steamed at myself after that.
