Rowan student dies after mugging

A Rowan University sophomore died this morning of injuries he suffered during a brief, brutal beating, officials said.
Donald Farrell, 19, of Boonton was leaving his off-campus apartment with friends around 9:15 p.m. Saturday when he was approached by four or five people in front of a 24-hour convenience store, university spokesman Joe Cardona said.
They asked Farrell where to find a party, and when he stopped to answer, they attacked, Cardona said.
"It just happened very quickly," Cardona said, adding police were on the scene within 90 seconds.
Fists and feet were the only weapons used in the attack, Cardona said. Farrell was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden with severe injuries to his head and stomach.
The attack took place near Bowe Boulevard and Route 322, near a large apartment complex populated mainly by students, Cardona said. The area was particularly busy Saturday because visitors were in town for Rowan's homecoming weekend.
Cardona said the attackers took Farrell's wallet and cell phone. He declined to comment on whether any arrests had been made or to offer a description of the suspects.
The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the attack, but was not immediately available for comment.

This happens ALL OF THE TIME at Rowan's campus; except this is the first time a student has actually died from his injuries. There's always reports in the paper and on campus about "Three men" assaulting students on the campus during weekend evenings. Its probably the same guys doing this each time. Rowan isn't far from Elsmere Projects.
You need a cop like Bigmann to clean up places like this. Rutgers has the same problem. A bunch of punk thugs waiting to victimize college students.
