Road Food

Hi all,

I'm posting this question on a couple of boards hoping to get some good suggestions...I'm travelling x-country for 3 weeks and I'll be driving...In a concerted attempt not to become a drive thru maven, I'm going to try cooking meals on the engine block of my car...Tin foil packet meals cort of like jiffy pop with a twist...I figured we may have some long haul drivers here or military who might be able to give me some advice on foods and time etc... I'm figuring you can throw a bit of olive oil inthere and throw everything else in but does anyone have any advice on timing? Or better foods than others? Thanks!!!

Squirrel Road Kill Brunswick Stew

Okay, you've got quick reflexes and have just hit a squirrel.Take that sucker and skin it, cut the head off and remove the internal organs. Cut squirrel into pieces and add to chopped pork of equal amounts and saute it slowly until light brown in 1/4 cup shortening. Then remove from the pan. Use the squirrel and pork fat to brown 1/2 cup of chopped onions. Put the squirrel, pork and onions in a stewing pot and add 2 cups of quartered tomatoes. 2 cups of lima beans. 1 cup of hot water. Cayenne to taste.
Simmer till squirrel and pork is just about tender and add 3 cups of corn. 2 spoons of Worcestershire sauce and a cup of toasted bread crumbs. Simmer for until completely tender..then there you are!!!

Bon appetit!

ok

something tells me you invest in nascar comemritive plates and have an engine hanging from the tree in your front yard.8 Do you all go to family reunions and feel like your at a mixer? Stop cooking on your engine bro, motor oil isnt exactly seasoning......Eat foods that dont need cooking.

I saw someone try this, put a can of Pork& Beans on the engine block.
You guessed it, can exploded from internal steam,
Bean mess all over the engine...

Hint: McDonalds, Wendy's and Burger King all make a passable low fat chicken salad.
And their skinless roasted Chicken sandwiches won't kill ya either. Have fun!

ROTFLMAO!!!
John...I guess the concept of pressure didn't occur to this guy!??!?! though in grade school one of the nuns got a ham in a can and yep you guessed it... BAM! Guess god wasn't looking after that one in home ec!!!

Some good points!! Actually I hate to admit it but I have eaten squirrel, and other trappable critters...Friend of mine is a wild game chef at a 5 star restaurant.... Nope no nascar plates et al I'm an urban girl with an outdoors bent...reason we're not using a propane stove is we're moving my friend and the car is gonna be to the gills as it is.....then I'm flying back.. I backpack so I can do three course meals on a single burner but time and safety are factors for us ...no problem humping white gas or propane in a backpack that I can sling off in the event of emergency but in the trunk of a loaded brand new car ....welllllll..... I'm the queen of salad and tuna but unless I'm getting ready for a show I don't want to live on it for 21 days and dropping cash at fast food joints twice a day is unappetizing... I've actually got some good info coming from a long-haul driver I''ll share it with you when it comes in...

I figure aluminum foil packets with the ingredients inside pre-prepped every morning at the local grocery and then tucked up in the block should make good meals just like on the outside BBQ!!:D

I'm damn determined to keep the costs down, quality up and space usage light...

well

if your trailer is a single wide you could always hitch it behind you and cook in your own kitchen...just a thought

Hey CaptA

We actually have one of those and we're planning to use it at night but we'll be driving 10 to 12 hours a day with some short breaks to flyfish and sightsee.... so we're tryng to multi-task the engine a bit for us!!

It'll be fun to see how this works....
