This was suppose to be the next being thing tell the pesky little privacy issue came up. I just finshed reading a long techie artical on it. :nerd:
I was wondering what others thoughts and opnions on the subject are?

Depends on the usage of Rfids.
Are we talking about human implants? Bad idea.
Shopping malls? Good idea.
Cars? Bad idea.

Note to self next time I am going to post anything remotely intelligent I should call the thread want to see my nipples that should get a response! :qt:

I'd rather get junk mail that is relative to my shopping habits.
And Visa already sells your shopping list to vendors anyway.

Rfids, would take it a weee bit further and allow cool benefit packages that are directly related to your purchases rather than scatter-shot marketing.

You think then when you pay on your Visa they can track you. Market just to you imagine getting even more junk mail?

I dont like it from a consumer side, but from a supplier/business side it makes a lot of sense.. it would inventory tracking and supply chain management a breeze.

Agreed from a business side it is amazing. Big Walley was going to start implementing RFID's into there stores on tell the public wind of it. Now it is on the back burner.

I'd be in favor of Rfids in stores.
It would mean no more junk mail than I currently get.

In some sense Code I agree with you but a lot can be said for some being able to track your every purchase. It is a very slippery slop. How would feel about some knowing what brand and type of condoms your buying?

i read a marketing paper on this in school, cant remember who did it.
but his thought was that it would cut down junk mail in the long run. it would be more direct marketing, cause of users being identified, and they could be singled out for special deals
the tough part is it may give out a lot of info on you, there is so much tracked via the net, its a tough line to draw
i think with the generational struggle right now, we wont see it for a little while now. the older seem to be fighting to turn it back to the '50s and the younger want to move on (a sterotype i know, but from the people i am around, this seems to be prety consitent)
change scares to many people

When you buy with a credit card and debit card, it's tracked and sold anyway. So it really doesn't matter.

Now theytrack bar codes RFID would track the products with name and info etc. Maybe I am just paranoid.

In the future we'll be given IP addresses at birth via implanted chips that can be used to track where we are and where we've been.

Right now it's tracked thusly:

Product Name
Product Genre
Credit Holder's Name
CC Holder's Address

Rfid really just allows the point of sale to sell the data, rather than the CC company. A lot of the "bad PR" Rfid's get is from CC companies trying to hold onto that vertical of revenue.
