There is no way I am the first guy to think of this, is there? Its my 7th week of 5x5 and I am getting bored. What if I alternated: a week of 5x5, a week of 4x8? Has anyone tried this? I might even put in a third week of 3x12. What do yall think?
I can't speak to whether it will be effective or not, but I say experiment. Putting together your own training program is what makes this sport interesting and fun!
I am currently taking the 5 x 5 principles and doing a 5 x10. Failure on the 5th set of 10's means I go to 5 x 5, then 5 x 3.
Wow, 5x10, is that counting warmups, if not, that is intense. I might try that, I really want to be big and lean this summer, so I just want to shock my body every week for the next 15 weeks.

I'm looking for failure on the 5th set--the key is to start VERY light and do the weekly 5 lb. progressions, letting the muscles accomodate. I'm trying to be wary of overtraining. When I've failed in that 5th set of 10, the next week I come back at that same weight for 5 x 5, and start the progression sequence again.
Hulse, you sound like you're just going to mimic his program the second he says "yes, gains have been through the roof". Pick a program and stick with it! If your goal is size, try HST. If it's strength, try WSB or BFS. Any program will work. Just stick with it, eat, and sleep. If you get bored, just do something new.
And what's with this thread's title? Revolutionary New Training Method my ass.
