reverse band deads

how much weight should i try and get the bands to take off at the bottom... my max is 365.. so i was thinking maybe 100 lbs off at the bottom..

does that seem right?

IMO...doesn't really matter how much you take off at the bottom. The important thing is to make sure that the bands let off at the top so you have to lock it out. Just keep different records for the different bands and set it up the same way everytime. Louie recommednds choking the band at about 5'6" (66").

D, that sounds pretty solid, as it's about 1/3. It should provide enough slack to get you generating some good speed off the floor, and then leave you to lockout your max. Are you planning on greens? Seems like our blues take at least 4 plates (total) to drop...and even that you can sometimes "dribble." LOL

Also, something we do is bands or chains on the floor, off a box to work the very bottom for speed. Do you ever do that?

im gonna use the light bands(purple i think) and minis..

i've done deads w/ bands off the floor before with the light bands doubled.. they kicked my arse.. never did them off the platform.. my form would be so horrible starting, i dont even want to try them.

At 66" with those bands, depending on how much elasticity they've lost, I'm gonna guesstimate between 130-140 pounds at the floor.

how close was your max to your actual max with all your gear on? they seem to be real close for me and others around here.

DBC, we were just discussing that our RBDL's without equipment are pretty close to our maxes WITH equipment.

Louie might suggest choking the bands but we usually don't do that, we pull the pins out and just thread the pin in. A choked band would provide way to much help.

That all depends on where you put the pins. We choke them at about 66". The bands completely let off the last couple of inches. And personally, with that set up, what I pull in training is within a couple pounds of what I can do with a belt and suit.

if i was lucky, i had 80-120 lbs off at bottom

Yeah deceiver1, if I remember right 135' was on the floor when we did them last, with the band. we're doing them in a week or two so I'll be reminded then exactly how we go.

What's fun is to pull some of those for speed, and then try a max dead...it just FLIES up. Of course, that's not recommended for SAFETY....but it's damn fun to watch a weight you thought was heavy lift right up.
