Results from ZMA?

RottenWillow

Plat Hero
Platinum
Has anyone here ever noticed any? I cant say that I've noticed any improved sleep or muscle gains. I take the guy's dose, 3 capsules, but still no results that I can see.
I take it near bedtime but not on an empty stomach since my stomach is never empty.

I take it and althought I dont notice it, because I take it before bed, IM sure it does have an effect on my day and workout.

i sleep better, and i think that is were it helps muscle growth
this also leads me to belive that i am deficient in zinc, because zma is usually better for those with zinc deficincies

used not one but two bottles
i always try at least two bottles of anything

conclusion:
garbage!
i found better sleep with a cal-mag-zinc before bed
and can take on a full stomach
also 5-htp works pretty good but it is a derivative of thrypothan
oh yea a nice big turkey breast works
and if you want wild dreams just watch the banned brittney commercial
lol

Obi and swastea I think I'm leaning towards a similar conclusion. I just wanted to see if anyone felt the same way.

Wouldn't it be more cost effective to buy some Zinc, buy some magnesium and b6 and just take them together? Is it the combinatin of these things that can help sleep or is it the zinc?

ZMA is a different form of Zinc than what is normally sold in multis and zinc supplements. Its zinc monomethionine apartate, but dont ask me what makes that special. lol

I've heard that zinc is partially responsible for relaxing the body, but doesnt actually make a person sleepy. But by what mechanism is it supposed to effect LBM gains?

The absorption rate of zinc aspartate over normal zinc is only marginally greater.

Zinc does seem to have some muscle relaxing properties. Some people also say that they wake up in the middle of the night to take a dump if they take 100 mg of zinc before bed. Don't ask me why.

I swear by the zinc/magnesium/melatonin combo before bed. It helps me sleep like nothing else, and good sleep improves my recovery, performance, and even mood in general. Plus, it's dirt cheap.

Good stuff. I ought to try it to cure my sleep ailments.

Damn that is exactly the cocktail that I've been using for the past month. It was an off brand of melatonin though. What brand were you using? I was taking 6mg nightly but after only about a week its sleep aid effects seemed to decline.

high doses of zinc is not recommended
prolong use of anything over 50 mg a day will depleted the body of copper which is another important mineral

what aboout if you are taking a daily multi with copper in it? Will you still become defficient? I went to walmart and got a magnesium 450mg/zinc 15mg pill and I also have 25mg pill of zinc that I will take. I also take a multi with in the morning. I am gonna see if it helps me sleep. If not I will try ZMA. Is the B6 that important? I take time released B-complex in the morning which has 50mg of B6 anyway.

thats only 40 mg of zinc so you should be fine
if you supp copper i see no reason you cannot take more
but trust me zma is useless
i do not say this from one bottle's worth but two

Sure ZMA is useless

and the monomethionine form is just some marketing hype

The manufacturer could not put a patent on Zn aspartate :o

BTW, if you take a Zn pill don't take too much calcium at the same time because both minerals compete for absorption

bring your not a guy, i would say why bother. zinc is only efective that it allows you body to produce as much natty test as possible. magnesium is the muscle relaxer. so i would say dont bother.

I take ZMA and melatonin on workout nights for sleep... works great for me. Cheap is good.

On non-workout nights I take Valerian Root, this works too. I wasn't sleeping well at all (if at all) until I starting taking either one of these things.

Knight thanks for the info. So Zinc maximizes T production? And its the mag that relaxes the body? Cool.

Ohashi, so you think I should switch to a cheap cal/mag/zinc combo instead of ZMA? If it would work just as well I definitely need to do that.

I used Optimum Nutrition's ZMA, and individual cheap stuff from my local pharmacy, and noticed no difference (kept a chart of sleeping times/sleeping strength/dreams/recovery feeling). ZMA isn't exactly expensive, but I'm a student, so every buck counts for me. Give it a try, if it's the same for you (no difference), might as well go with the cheaper stuff.

I'm also using ON's ZMA and I'm also a student so I totally understand about the "every buck counts" thing. I switched to the ON protein in the big dogfood bag last month to save month. Every penny counts. :)

ZMA

I found ZMA woke me up during the first week of use. Though, thereafter, it gave me quality sleep. Sleeping for 6 hours felt like 8. The magnesium was relaxing. Good supplement, but not an essential.

sam's club brand calcum magnesium and zinc, 400 tabs, take 3 a day. i think it was between 10 and 12 dollars. thats what i use, gives me weird and realistic dreams...

all ZMA is made up of is zinc, Magnesium and B6. why not just buy them separately from a health or drug store. You will save a shit load of cash and actually get more of each. In zma there is hardly any b6, so its useless. So basically you are paying a tone of cash for simple zinc and magnesium. The drug store near my house sells a calcium 333mg, magnesium 176mg, and zinc 20mg combo for 8 bucks (Canadian) 100 caplets. 3 of those before bed and im getting more of each than in the recommended dose of zma. this will last me over a month. Not bad.
Some say it does not do shit. Hey I like it. I find that I only need 6 hours of sleep and I feel like I just had 9. wake up feeling like a million bucks. I used to have a real hard time getting up in the morning, could sleep forever, now after 6 7 hours Im wide awake

Ive noticed better sleep and more lucid dreams while taking ZMA, as for making your own, I used to do that, but found a few sites where you can get a 2 month supply for $20 bucks so I figure that is almost as cost effective as making your own (around $15)

SO what are some good sites? :)
