Restless Sleep

I am SO tired all the time. Even after plenty of sleep during the night. Only thing different I am doing is adding R-ALA during the day. So I thought it might be that, which may be partially true for my during the day sleepyness. (I think my doses were too high for the amount of carbs I was ingesting)

But now it turns out I am VERY restless during the night. My BF said he was watching me last night and I don't stop moving all night. He said I turn, toss and move - all while sleeping. SO while I think I am sleeping through the night, turns out I am VERY active.

What in the blue blazes can I do about that? How can I have a more peaceful sleep?

Go to see a Dr and tell him your problem. I have similar problems from time to time, and my Doc keeps me supplied with some Ambien. Once you take some Ambien, you better be close to your bed, cause you are going to go to sleep FAST. Only problem with Ambien is that it only lasts for about 4-6hrs. I also use Elavil. The Ambien will put you to sleep fast, and the Elavil will keep you asleep for the remainder of the night. Good luck and sweet dreams.

hmm...nothing else? i hear ephedrine or ECA stacks can do the same. even to the point of grinding your teeth. just making sure you werent taking any e/c/a or other stimulants.

have you tried melatonin? its a cheap fix to try and see if you can get a restful nights sleep.

also, do you drink alot of water before bed?

Are you low carbing?

Man that makes me climb the walls. I have to take 5-HTP just to fall asleep when I'm low carbing, or I end up painting, cleaning out the fridge, reorganizing closets and drawers, making casseroles...like a pregnant woman nesting!

Any new stress in your life? Climate changes? When my allergies kick in, that happens too. Just thinking out loud... ;)

Spatts made a good call by asking if you'd been under stress of late. That does it to me, too. You don't happen to do anything physically exurting before bed time, do you? That does it to me, too.

And I'm gonna think out loud here by saying that what really helps me obtain some peaceful sleep is sex. I'm not kidding, after a good tumble in the hay... :sleep2:

MMMMhm. Nothing like 5x the oxytocin, dopamine, and opiate-like chemicals to make ya hap-hap-happy. :D

...and sleepy.

nonerz just got some 5-HTP, you mean she's gonna fall asleep now??

finally.....

(she doesnt sleep much...its not always my fault either) :D

Hmmmm.... all great answers, thanks so much.

Not low carbing YET, but have lowered my carbs by quite a bit. The low carbing starts in about 2 weeks.... :(

New stress....well, I feel less stressed than awhile back, but maybe I am not being honest to myself? Really though, I don't think stress is major. I always HAVE been a teeth grinder though - since high school. I can always tell when I am stressed because I grind my teech - and I haven't been doing that.

I just started taking NYC 5 days ago, but the sleep problem has been occurring for much longer than that. A couple months ago we even bought a new (king) bed to help me sleep better. Apparently, lack of space was not the problem like we thought. Oh well, I still love the bed.

As for water intake, I am drinking a lot, but all throughout the day. I know my body and I know that I cannot drink a lot before bed because then i'll be up all night going back and forth to the bathroom. My problem is weird, my sleep isn't interrupted - I stay asleep all night it's just that the sleep is not peaceful.

Ok, the OTCs to try are melatonin and 5-HTP(?) right? How about some recommended dosages for both???? Would like to try that before ambien.

Okay, you pulled my arm, will have to try the sex thing tonight. :)

UP: if I am active all night, I must by burning more calories, right? :D :FRlol:

I've heard about valerian & hops. They are intended to help you have a more restful sleep, so you get "quality" snooze time. This isn't something you want to take if you have to get up early the next morning! I've tried it and I found that I felt extremely well rested the next morning. I toss and turn as well...seems that I've always been a very active sleeper.

The one thing that I didn't like about it was the odor of the pills. That aside, it worked great.

The dosage on my 5-HTP is the following:

Serving size = 1 capsule
1 capsule = 50 mg
Suggested use = Take one capsule once or twice daily

Spatts, I am the same way...I reorganize stupid stuff and do the strangest things...seems to keep me busy, like an excuse to stay up.

I'd like to point out that sex doesn't make me sleepy, but an orgasm does! :sleep2:

Before I got pregnant I was taking ZMA, valerian root and melatonin. It worked like a charm. Not sure if you need all three but it helped me out.

5-htp - 100 mgs before bed.
Melatonin - I can get by on 3 mgs. You have to be careful though - melatonin can shift your sleep cycle. Take it 30 min before you would normally go to bed, but don't take it say more than an hour past when you would normally hit the hay. For example, if you can't sleep and are still awake at 1:00, melatonin is not the answer. It will shift you into going to sleep at 1:00 - not a good thing (that's why it's so great for jet lag - really helps with time changes).

When I've been awake at 1:00, the only thing (besides sex) that might work is Nyquil. A nice big shot of it.

I've had sleep problems for some time now and I'm exhausted all the time.

Natrol's Stress Complex works for me to get some zzz's but it hasn't solve the always tired feeling. (I suspect it's unrelated for myself but it may work for you.)

3 things

1. try adding biotin.. while it is highly unlikely that this is causing restlessness.. it should be supplemented while taking r-ala (why it was added to the AF store at such a low price and why it is in the new glucorellR-- soon to be released).. and its a possibility.

2. try adding folic acid-- if you have restless legs syndrome it cures about a third of the cases

3. try the p7 orange.. most people note greatly improved sleep..

5htp may also be of help

pot?

if you can avoid the munchies, it's all natural and works like a charm for me. my husband says i don't budge all night (i'm a wild sleeper normally).

i don't use it for the sleep factor (but it's nice), i use it for my FMS pain so that i don't have be heavily medicated.

i don't like chemical drugs.

you're welcome to come over anytime while you're low carbing.

I'll make you a motherload of lasagna and fatten you RIGHT UP.

13 cheeses, homemade sauce and noodles!!! :p

buffedmama,

these are all natural options...

note- pot interferes with the action of P7.. and sleep is actually less fruitful when marijuana induced..

I tried 1 pill (50 mg) of my newly purchased 5-HTP last night at about 1-1:30. Worked like a charm...at least I think so! I fell asleep no problem, woke up feeling pretty good--although I always feel that I could stay in bed a little longer! It's just not as much fun by myself! <<bock, bock, snuggle, snuggle>> :busy:

you know, I was wondering when you should take 5-HTP...right before bed? a couple hours before? when is it best?

I take it about half an hour before bed

.... but I don't feel it helps me go asleep :(
(maybe I should take it on an empty stomach)

I've had some very restless nights lately, so I started using a little P7 (peppermint) before bed, and I can honestly say I've been sleeping soundly.

nonerz will have the sleepless night situation licked, since we just built her NEW BED!!!

yaaaaay!!!

thats the secret....good bedding or.....bedded properly!

hehehehe. ;)
