Respect for doctors rant

I have made the observation, and friends and family of mine with me, that the more stupid people are, the more they will criticise the doctors that treated them.

Becoming a doctor, let alone a medical specialist, is preserved for those who are not only of above average intelligence, but also of above average motivation and drive. Medical school has the toughest selection of all university educations and is known as the hardest study to complete. It is also the longest

Ironically its always those who never got further than primary or junior high who are keen to criticise them and make clear they knew better, but they just wouldn`t listen.

Medical errors occur. The human body is infinitely complex and very sensitive and medical practise is a continuous process. Its no more than logical doctors make mistakes. My father was under intense treatment for years in a row after a severe motorcycle crash. Mistakes have been made, some irrelevant, some painful.
However looking at the whole picture, it is amazing what they have been able to do. Nobody had foreseen his amazing recovery. The batting average in this industry is, IMO, high enough. It would be unreasonable to demand a much higher one.

Gyms, particularly hardcore gyms, being a perfect environment to observe the intellectually challenged, I often overhear onesided ignorant conversations in which everybody comes to the conclusion doctors are total bunglers. These same people I overheard discussing another time how cancer patients have black blood cells...

Of course its going to seem like Dr is just messing with your body wild.... your TOO DAMN DUMB for him to explain to you what he is doing. get over it.

My mother is a nurse and has the same experience and opinion.
There are a lot of doctors in my family and they too experience most criticism from the dumbest people.

Everybody lay off and respect the doc`s!

very true.....a lot of the time its because the patients cannot grasp what is wrong, and resort to the defence mechanism of blame

malpractise is one thing, but mistakes are another. thats what people do not realise, doctors are PEOPLE. if they get a patient presenting with typical symptoms of one disease and it urns out to be another, most people may make that mistake, yet doctors are expected to be 100% right 100% if the time

it wont happen....its frightening, but realistic

Medical school is one of the most, if not the most, grueling professional curriculums in existence. The individuals who complete this training are, in my experience, some of the most organized, self-focused people I have ever met, and these are the traits that I admire the most. I never had any urge for medical school, but this focused drive is the main barrier that would have prevented my career.

That being said, medical practitioners have a tendency to overinflate their knowledge and become defensive with patients who are knowledgable about medicine. Their protectionist mentality tends to kick them in defense mode when a patient presents questions, alternatives, concerns about any information derived from the practitioner. I have had incorrect/suspect information relayed to me by medical practitioners, nurses being some of the worst culprits, but doctors also. The average individual, with no scientific knowledge, is very dependant on the abilities of their caretaker, which as shown statistically, can be very costly.

Find a doctor with a good patient raport. Do not accept any doctor that you are presented with; shop around as you would for a new car or house. A good doctor is worth every penny. Any doctor that is rude or oblivious to your concerns, leave his room and explain to the receptionist that you are not paying for his/her services, and that you will contact your insurance provider and demand that they not pay for services which were not adequate. They provide you a service; you are the customer.
