I've never understood the practical uses of something like that. Please explain. If you want to know your max, why wouldn't you just max and find out for sure?
 
I use similar calculations all the time just to give me a ball-park figure of where I should be at given rep ranges.
 
No - I can't remeber where I found it, just saw it on my HD and thought cool! :D

it's useful for estimating a weight to use for a certain rep bracket for example - or predict how much weight you need to be able to hit for a certain number of reps before you are capable of doing a certain max and so on :)

Well these tools only really work for average mixed fiber guys. If your high in fast wtitch fibers you max will be higher than the calculated, and the weights where you you rep out will be lower.

That is pretty good confirmation that I am a fast-twitch fibre guy. These things always underestimate my 1RMs and overestimate my reps.

Couple that with the fact I'm quick and explosive, yet have no clue what muscular endurance is,and am genetically doomed to a low aerobic capacity, and I think its safe to say I'm predominantly fast twitch?
 
well see how many reps you get at 85% of 1RM :)

5 and under is fast twitch

also how you jump, if you can jump higher with minimal leg bend then your fast twitch, the shallower the dip, the more so

the closer you are to parallel when you dip to get the best jump, the slower twitch you are :D
 
In my most recent training block I was repping 265 for a set of 3 on my squats, yet maxed out at 330 and could've maybe gone higher. That is pretty good confirmation for me. I'd just never considered it in the past :)
 
I'm similar- I have trouble doing 5 reps with 75%, let alone 85. pretty shallow dip with jumps too (certainly nowhere near paralell), although my jumping form needs practice. maybe this will make up for my short legs and long torso :D.
