Removing salvaged title from cars

Supposedly, you can register the slavaged car in a different state (given that you have an address to register it to), then register it back to your state. Somewhere along those transactions the salvaged title is lost/removed.

I heard this recently and was wondering if any one else has heard or done this before.

My bro is looking at buying a low mileage car that was salvaged for body damage.

definitely sounds like a :mexican: thing to do

it used to work..not anymore....now that their is a nationwide data base of VIN#'s where they record all activity now..

and people wonder why :mexican: s get a bad rap

why do you need to remove the salvage status if you are only going to use it for spare parts?

Honestly it was a big problem..people from Cali were welding cars back together after being torn in half....fixen em up new adn the reregistering somewhere like pensylvania or ohio and reselling these cars...I saw a story of a kid whose dad bought him a corvette and the kid died when the car which was welded in peices..bent frame...rediculous...the car fell apart

If hes only using it for parts thats fine..but you cannot get full insurance on anything salvaged..you can drive them..but no one will fully insure it

means absolutely nothing without an explanation....

The explanantion as to why it's false...?? Sure my statement was vague....and yours was more wordy, but still left no tangible reasoning.

Any blue, green, or gray title car....ie: salvage, reconditioned, rebuilt, can be insured fully by any bonded insurance company. After the car has been inspected and deemed safe by a H.P. office. The only title that can not be reissued, or insured is a destruction title.

Good luck finding even a bonded company that will do this...and also good luck paying the sum 60-70% extra youll be paying in insurance fees. And still from what I understand by no means..and this varies somewhat from state to state you will never be able to get the same coverage as if the car was new or has/had a clean title. It NY/NJ you cannot fully insure any salvaged automible/motorcycle. Salvaged in insurance terms is any car that is beyond repair...i found no terms relating to destruction.

People sell salvage and abandoned vehicles every day on Ebay. Only vehicles in FL that cannot be re-titled are those issued a Certificate of Destruction.

I'm not sure if this is only CA, but over here insurance companies will salvage vehicles if the rpice to fix is "estimated" at something like 60 or 70% of blue book value.

About 2 years a go, my other brother had bought an explorer off his friend, top model, sun roof, leather seats, etc for 5K. He later flipped it on it's side (passenger side) on the highway damaging one of the front quarter pannels, cracked the tail light, broke theside view mirror and a small damage to the rear quarter pannel. Cost of repair to damage was estimated at 4k, they cut him a check 7.5k, salvaged the title and let him keep the car. He's still driving it, the only things he's fixed are the tail light and side view mirror. The damage to the quarter pannels is noticeable but not that big.

The percentage is different all over..but does he have full coverage from his ins. company?

You can get insurance on a redone car.....i had a car that i had full coverage on. At that time tho, you could still make the title to be clear
but then my dad got a truck from my uncle but by that time it was the law that you have to say if its been wrecked and he carried full coverage on it
it could vary from state to state
I think they do that now to protect potential buyers. If the frame has been bent or whatnot.....and then pulled back in place, then the frame isnt as sturdy as it was before...and that doesnt make the car as safe as it did before

How about State Farm, Allstate, Progressive, Geico........will those do...??
Full coverage is full coverage, it has nothing to do with a salvage title, prior salvage, or re-built. Salvaged has nothing to do with whether or not the car can be repaired....it has to do with approximation of value of the damage done vs. the value of the car........ie: if you wreck a 97 Prelude, and blow both of the airbags.....they total the car......car = $7900 (high retail) airbags = $2,000 a piece = car is totaled and resold with a salvage title at auction.

The car is then purchased most likely by a bodyshop with a D tag, fixed with used airbags, then re-sold with a salvage title to Joe customer.
Joe Customer then takes the car to the H.P., car is inspected deemed safe for the street, tagged and bagged. Done and Done.

Also, insurance (full coverage) on a 97' Prelude (salvage title) for a 16 year old driver with State Farm, is $1500 a year. The exact same as it was going to be on a 97' Prelude with a clean title.

I own several car dealerships, and just two months ago, I helped my workout partner's kid, buy, title, and insure this exact car. He paid $3900 for the car...hell of deal.....I couldn't find him a 97' for less than $5200 at auction with a pissload more miles and in worse overall condition.
