has the reciever for the infrared signal become blocked or dirty? or does it not use one of those?
i've never used remote starters. i've contemplated it, but it's just not worth the money and really won't save me much hassle. if it has snowed or i have to scrape my windows, then the car can warm up while i do that. i don't let my car warm up for an extended period of time though. if i'm clearing off a lot of snow, the car may run for 5 minutes or so.
if it's really cold out(below 40 degrees) and the engine hasn't been started in the last hour, i'll give it 2 minutes. if it's warmer than 40 degrees, the car gets a minute - minute and a half. there's no point in giving the car an extended warm up. all you're doing is burning gas and the ar is warming up slower than it would if you were driving. if you start up a car and let it run until it's fully warmed up, you're looking at 10-15 minutes (depending on how cold it is and the size of your cooling system). if you let it run for 2 minutes then get in and drive, the car will be fully warmed up in about 5-8 minutes.
i've seen differences of 2-3mpg between driving off after about 2 minutes and giving the car an extended warm up. with gas prices the way they are, i'd rather be using that gas to move the car, not let it sit.
people that get in their car, start it, and are moving in 10 seconds deserve to have their engines sieze up on them. to your engine, that's like anal sex with no lube.
