Relationships are for kids

I wanted to get this thought written here before I do my bloody errands. I'll elaborate later tonight. Till then I'm interested to hear your opinions on what I mean.

I had dinner with a very close female friend last night. We discussed relationships and human behavior most of the night. She 100% agreed that an insanely high amount of people settle in life, because it's just so much damn easier to be miserable and safe than to be alone and venture into the unkown. A fate worse than death is actually ending a relationship before having another one to fall back on.

And the result of that is missed opportunities. I do believe that every person in the world has an equal out there, but most people will have their eyes currently blinded by a faux relationship to notice their equal when they do cross paths.

Well put Dr.KB.

The beauty of the whole scenario is that we were both sitting there agreeing about this whole idea....and the underlying story here is that SHE is in one of those relationships right now and I am the guy she should be with at the moment ("with" being a loose term) and we both know it.

so you think it is predetermined?

I honestly don't know. I've never bothered really deeply trying to figure out the "why" to a lot of my beliefs. I'm more of a "it will all work out in the end" thought process kinda dude...and it's been pretty good thus far. Yeah, I guess it is predetermined, but also a moving target. If the basis of my belief is that two souls are meant to come together, I would also venture to say that souls can evolve/change/morph, so it's not necessarily a "you have one chance at finding your predetermined mate or you're fucked" type of deal.

big debate about life, are things predetermined
if they are, then their must be a higher power orchestrating things

Possibly. Or an equal power that just happened to be first in line the day they were handing out assignments.

Define "relationship" and the context in which it is being used here.

Yes, this is somewhat scientific; you'll get it.

Relationship as in, between male & female, romantic/sexual/long term.

in my opinion, a relationship with a woman should be just like a relationship with your good bros. you should be allowed to smash beer cans on your head, fart, and bang out jello shots off of strippers whenever you want. if she doesn't like it too bad. you still have your good bros.

It's very simple; nothing near as deep as what Killah was getting into, which woulda put Freud (Fraud) to shame.

After reading so many troubled relationship/she's cheating on you/single mom threads here, I've put them all together and am at the conclusion that for the most part:

1. Relationships are not natural, at least not indefinitely. Yet we all tend to seek them, consciously and subconsciously, which is why we all usually end up in one at some point in time, regardless of what we're thinking.
2. They aren't necessarily meant to last, because of the above, 1.
3. Relationships are solely reserved for the family unit, or the preparation of one. Even if there are couples who never "plan" on having kids, the relationship is basically used as a security buffer in the event that it will become a reality at some future time. It's no secret that women are more relationship oriented than men, and kids are the reason why. Subconsciously, men still end up in relationships no matter how pimp they think they are, because of their paternal instincts, and the expectation that someday children will be drawn into the equation.
4. Once a child is brought into the mix, the relationship has been fulfilled, and is now dedicated solely to his/her well being and upbringing. If the relationship fails at this point, it is a sad and unfortunate bi product of the complicated times we live in.
5. Once the child/ren have been raised and venture out on their own, complacency has long set the relationship on autopilot. These could be said to be the most rewarding times. True love, at its finest and fullest.

Once again, a lot of what Killah said about fear of the unknown, and relationships just being easier, tie into what I've said above. A lot of it has to do with timing.

I'm tired. I'd write more in detail but I want to finish eating my ice cream.

And by "kids", I'm assuming you're referring to adolescents?

Oh, wait... the "offspring" wasn't sarcasm, lol.

"Once a child is brought into the mix, the relationship has been fulfilled, and is now dedicated solely to his/her well being and upbringing. If the relationship fails at this point, it is a sad and unfortunate bi product of the complicated times we live in."

So relationship = mold in which reproduction/care of offspring takes place.

That last sentence was quite humerous. Nuclear fallout is a sad and unfortunate byproduct of the complicated times we live in as well, but it isn't exactly a "yeah, well, I'll be on my way then" kinda thing. I tend to be more old-school in this way of thought, in that bastard children are a disgrace, rather than a, "yo, where do I sent baby mama's child support check so I can screw my other five bitches" kinda thing.

We are all a product of our environment. Here, I would relate that with personal and family (or traditional) morals. The statement "relationships are for kids" is foreign to me, but that's likely because I grew up in a normal household... and I know it's likewise completely different in meaning to others because of the manner in which they were brought up.

One's idea of what a relationship is for is based on how he or she has percieved society, family, religious, and personal morals pertaining to such.

That is, I don't believe there to be any single credited choice.

A man riding his Harley was riding along a California beach when
suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, the
Lord said, "Because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways,
I will grant you one wish."

The biker pulled over and said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can
ride over anytime I want."

The Lord said, "Your request is materialistic, think of the enormous
challenges for that kind of undertaking; the supports required
reaching the bottom of the Pacific and the concrete and steel it
would take! It will nearly exhaust several natural resources. I can
do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly
things. Take a little more time and think of something that could
possibly help mankind."

The biker thought about it for a long time. Finally, he said, "Lord,
I wish that I and all men could understand women; I want to know how
she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent
treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothings
wrong, and how I can make a woman truly happy."

The Lord replied, "You want two lanes or four on that bridge?"
