Red Dead Redemption

looks pretty cool. dont know if i want to cop it now or wait. there's a few other games i still need to beat or want to get that i haven't played yet (FF XIII, dragon age origins)

found a few places online that had it for sale for $45 bucks.

if you shop around for games now a days can easily find games for $40 bucks brand new. Either from a direct discount or a gift card that's included with it

Thinking about it. Given the history of its creation, I'm going to want to read some reviews first and make sure its worth it.

gameinformer gave it a 9.75.....
and playstation magazine gave it a 10/10

rockstar doesn't usually come out with crap

Good to know. I only say that because there were a bunch of problems during development, and even some of the programmers who were interviewed said it was going to turn out as a piece of shit.

Then again, any game that lets you do this cant be that bad.

Also, apparently theres an achievement where you evade the law on a white bronco.

Cheap joke, I know...but funny as hell.

OMG, that's awesome, I couldn't stop laughing. I knew what was coming as soon as he started riding down the track. I can't wait. Multiplayer open world ought to be ridiculous.

I've read the PS3 version of FFXIII is prime, but DA: Origins has slowdown in heavy action. Better visuals than the 360 but the PC version would really be the way to go for that one (if you have one better than a PS3/360), since it's the only one with a top-down view, hotkeys, etc.

Alright, I broke down and pre-ordered this on Amazon. Came with a $20 gift card too, so IMO it was worth it.

Metacritic has it at like a 95 right now. The NYT review called it a tour de force.

Pretty stoked...should be here Thursday.

Anybody on PS3 here? We should form a posse in multiplayer.

I just beat the original GoW on Spartan difficulty. One of the toughest games I've played in a few years I think. Red Dead looks cool, hope the gameplay mechanics are improved over GTA IV otherwise I probably won't even rent it lol.

I've done easy, spartan, and working on titan, stuck on the phase where hordes of Minator come out and start chopping on the iron latch on top of the box. I get to the 3rd wave where you ride the 3 headed thing but on titan those guys just start pummeling me.

Urge to ban......rising..............

Team Rach?...Really? Mucho Bant!

Let me know how horrible this game is, then I will decide on how long to wait to buy it used.

Fuck that man I know you're unwrapping it as you typed this. Go hog tie and ass bang a nun and throw her under a train.

well, played a little bit last night.

it's safe to say this game is pretty awesome.

it certainly is "GTA-like" in a lot of ways...as far as the core of the design goes. You still similar map icons, and you go to places for "missions" as you deem fit. But likening it to GTA is completely unfair to this game, because it's a completely different experience and just infinitely more polished. It's incredibly more immersive than the GTA style of games. It seems like they wrapped up the story aspect of it a bit tighter. It basically addressed anything you might think as subpar in GTA IV and took it to a whole nother level. You really feel like you're in the wild west, which isn't something that's been too much in gaming before.

The graphics are unreal, along with the actual animation. It's incredibly realistic.Possibly even better than Uncharted 2 as far as graphics go. and the voice acting is pretty good after the first scene. The controls, while a little complicated and take a bit getting used to, are extremely responsive.

To me it plays like an RPG in some ways so far, but with lots of carnage. It also gives you a lot more freedom than a GTA as far as being a good guy or bad guy. So maybe more like in the fallout/oblivion sense (hence the RPG comparison).

Sounds good. Looking forward to Thursday.

My bad I was talking about the original GoW, not 3. I beat that one from the Collection the other night on Spartan (which is 1's hard mode) and started on the 2nd one now. Most people say that's the toughest of all three main games. I'm at Hades in 3 on Chaos mode and a couple hits = lights out lol. That's what great about the series though; the brutal, old school challenge that gets the heart pounding. There are others like Ninja Gaiden, DMC, Bayonetta (hot but PS3 port sucked), etc. although God of War to me just has more character and I prefer its style by far.

That's good news. Most of those, especially the controls (which always felt sluggish in every GTA since 3) make this game sound like a winner. I thought that western game called Gun was good, so this must be pretty much off the hook.

You know the game is big when it hits the front page of Yahoo!

Didn't get to play too much tonight, about an hour and not much that I got to do in that time. Its basically setting up the story and getting you use to the controls

So far looks like it will be a winner though.

The last paragraph in the 9.5/10 rating on Gamespot sums it up pretty much:

"Between the Free Roam and competitive modes, there's enough great multiplayer content to keep you playing Red Dead Redemption long after you've watched the credits roll at the end of the superb single-player mode and gone back in to finish up any optional challenges and missions that you missed. This is an outstanding game that tells a great story with memorable and occasionally laugh-out-loud-funny characters. Think about great moments that you remember from spaghetti Western movies, put them all into one 20- to 40-hour epic feature, and picture yourself in the starring role. Now you have some idea of what's waiting for you in Red Dead Redemption."

i think i've spent more time in the poker game inside the game, than actually playing the game

i like knocking out the black guy and the over the top hillbilly
