recovering from my pec rupture

paradox

Platinum
Its been over 3 months since I had surgery on my pec, Almost gained back all the strength & size I lost, however , It doesnt look like I'll be benching over 300 again anytime soon.

I am told to never do heavy low rep bench again, just dumbbells for chest, anyone else ever go through anything like this?

I didn't completely rupture my pec, but I definately tore it.

The weird thing is that the week before I had benched 405lbs for the first time and it felt completely stable. I suffered my injury under a load of 315 lbs. I was lowering the weight on a 3 sec count and exploding from a pause and on my 5th rep I felt the muscle begin to tear as I was lowering the weight.

The analogy I used to describe the tear, was that it felt and sounded like ripping a bath towel in half. Almost like the a ratchet slipping as the weight lowered to my chest.

Fortunately the pec didn't rupture from the origin. I was back benching 315lbs within 10 weeks. Now, roughly 4 months post injury, I have equivalent range of motion, but haven't ventured into the 405lbs range.

Good luck man

Yeah, I tore my pec completely in college. Was benching about 330 and all of a sudden "pop" ..weight crashing down, the whole nine.

I had surgery but it was unsuccessful. After a week and a half i had an accident where I fell and split it open again.

I very rarely go over 225 these days. There is a noticeable indent in my pec.
It haunts me everyday.

Oh well....life goes on.

never tore a pec but just a thought maybee you should train with a bench shirt from now on the ones the powerlifters wear, they were designed to cut way back on pec and shoulder tears, which they have acomplished, i have heard of some people who come back from injuries like this training year round with a bench shirt that is a size too big for them, might help, might be worth looking into how powerlifters who have had this injury have come back to lifting after that kind of injury
