Recording on a PC: question.

Ok here's the deal. I've always used DAT and stuff to make mix tapes. Now I want to try my PC for this. I know I can use a Y RCA cable from my mixer to my PC input. I wanna know if I need a special software for that. Then once this will all be recorded will it be available in a wav file ? cause I wanna burn it on a CD. Also, how do you separate tracks in a mix CD without breaking the whole mix ? IS it possible with CD creator ?

Thanks.

You definately need software for this.
I'm not tuned into the names, but I know from walking around Fry's that high end mixing software is around 200 bones. :(

Your best bet..PM JohnnyO he is or was into this very much.

well do you want transfer from DAT to pc? or just use the pc from here on out?

no I just want to mix (output from my mixer) and record at the same time live on my PC. Then I could edit that stuff and burn it on a CD :)

so you wanna straight up recording... no mixing on the computer? i assume you are a dj? Well in that case i would just use cooledit by syntrillium, or sound forge by sonic foundry.

I've recently had the same question as you.

here's what someone suggested to me.

"soudforge+nero

just get a decent audio editor (ie soundforge) and choose your points and cut!... watch the dB level at the divisions tho to avoid pops and clicks... i always find a zero point on both stereo channels simultaneously... save the individual tracks....

then you need to arrange the files yourself in the proper order and drop them into a burning app... like Nero, or Easy CD... make sure to choose disc-at-once option.
that is it.

yup I prefer to use my turntables, it's easier and faster for me. Thanks for your advices people :)

hey Manny just found out an easier way.

In Wavelab you can point and click where you want to put a CD marker on the file.

For recording the mix, I attached via the y cable, set my sound card to "what u hear", opened Sound Forge and just pressed record.
