Recommendations on Weight Lifting Belts?

Lumberg

New member
Hey guys, I have gotten back into squatting and am finally getting to where I have to use belts again. The only belt at my gym that is small enough for me pretty much sucks. I have like a 30" waist. So I am wondering if you hardcore squatters have any recommendations for quality belts. So far I have tried the classic leather kind and the black nylon kind with the velcro (I think it was a Hamburger) and I liked the nylon one better. Of course if it'save a few pennies that would be great too.

i dont go for the wide wieghtlifter belts..i have a Valeo belt, and it rules. its with velcro, and more flexible than the other belts..but then again, im a bodybuilder, not a powerlifter.

You got me

You got me, frorider

I just realized that the brand was Harbinger, not Hamburger.

I am indeed a bodybuilder but I try to squat as heavy as I can for reps and I do need a quality belt so any more suggestions? Are the thick suede belts that much better than the nylon ones?

I have a leather one and don't like it. I'm buying a new one this weekend. Probably a Nike or Harbinger nylon one. I think it's all a matter of personal preference.

I have the best weight lifting belt you can buy. It's called "my shorts and boxers." Forget the belt and build up that lower back, home skillet.

hehe thats funny..really

Belt is madatory for this home skillet

Sorry dudes, I have messed up my back before from squatting without a belt. And before you blame my form, think, who has perfect form on their last rep? And one rep is all it takes. And I do do lower back exercises, too, home skillets.

?I have perfect form on ALL reps.....otherwise you are going too heavy.

IMO

How can you have perfect form if you are working to failure?

Why not??? Failure means just that....failure, not one last rep that is half-assed.

NEVER sacrifice form for ANYTHING....not even your last rep.

My 2 cents

I prefer to have a strong lower back so Idon't need them. :)

My shoulder prevents me from doing squats... that is the only exercise I ever have used a belt before... I'd go with a WIDE one if i did get one.

Ever heard of the cheating principle?

Sure, I've heard of it......but I certainly don't subscribe to it

<-------------------------------strong back

i thought belts were bad for you honestly.

just have a strong back, you'll thank yourself later.

and what gaurds said!

i don't use a belt, I think they are only needed if going for absolute max 1 rep...like in a power lifting meet. If you find yourself breaking form, lighten up on the weight. Trying to do too much weight is what frequently leads to injury. good luck

Never have used one and I like the fact that my lower back is much stronger not using it.

Deads and squats, thats where its at. Pretty much my routine. (Don't have much time anymore for the gym).

How many times have you seen someone wearing a belt, and all they do is curls and bench presses?;)

Dudes so right..everyone looks at me crazy at school when I do deads and squats without a belt."Dont you know you will damage your back irreparably?"..They talk about how they injured their backs doing those and they were using their belt..I'm like "You just answered your own question!"..lol:fro:
