Recommend a book for a beginner

I was at the book store this weekend, picking up some magazines, and thought it would be a good idea to pick a book on finance or business or anything money related. I was a bit overwhelmed by the range of subjects in the matter so I did not buy anything and thought I would ask you guys for suggestions.

I am looking for anything that is motivational and/or educational and/or interesting, etc.....

Remember I am a newbie at this so please don't recommend anything too advanced yet.

Thanks in advance

i've said it a few times already, but "my" list hasn't changed:

"Think and grow rich"

"Winning with Integrity -- Leigh Steinberg"

"Kiss and Make-up : Gene Simmons" (chuckle if you want, but Gene is an ASTUTE intelligent businessman. Reading this will instill in you how some cheesy long-haired new york bassist went up against so many sterotypes, prejudice and enemies and made the communist record industry putty in HIS hands. Amazing).

Entrepreneur Magazine has a "Start Your Own Business" book, I'm sure you could find a copy on eBay if you didnt want to pay full price at a bookstore. It is more complete than most business books I've read.

You can get some popular business books on Kazaa free of charge. Examples: "Rich Dad Poor Dad", "Think & Grow Rich", misc real estate books/articles - You will need Acrobat Reader to open the .pdf files.

I mentioned it in a couple other threads, but "Guerilla Marketing" - Jay Conrad Levinson is a business bible and good for ANY type of business owner. They later added other books to the "Guerilla" series, some by different authors. I havent read them yet but would venture to guess they are good. You can probably find copies of these on eBay as well.

The good books are in the library. I would pass on the self-help, 'revolutionary', 'get-rich' crap that comprises 95% of the bookstore shelves.

My recommendation is for A Random Walk Down Wall Street/Malkiel. It's one of the best finance books I know.

Might sound ridiculous but "Small business kit for dummies" is perfect to understand the very basic stuff. That should be a good first step.

Andrew Tobias...."The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need". I have read it 33 times (thankfully it is written in simple language) and is hands-down the best finance/investment book out there. Please read it, follow the advice, and you'll thank yourself in the years to come....I did.

Good luck in your quest!

Oh, and while we're on the topic of books, and the google ipo(in another thread) , has anyone read 'f'd companies' by Kaplan? I found that book to be hilarious.
