Recent College Graduate.

opioxoipo

New member
I just graduated college and recieved a 4 year BS degree in Biology.
I wanted to go to medical school, but I dont think its going to happen.

So now I have a college diploma and no job. I really do not want to go back to school and just about every Biology job out there requires further
education.

So where should a college graduate work?

Karma to any advice

Do you like biology or not ? Is the medical field for you ? You may consider getting something related to biology, work part-time and get higher education. But I'm surprised you can't find shit cause here, pharma companies hire and hire big time...

1. Medical school - not going to happen - why not?

2. Pharma co's often look for science backgrounds - you could get hired as a rep without too much difficulty.

I do some work in pharma, depending on what you are into I can point some things out. Tell us more if you want.

I cant get anything with a biology degree here.
The only reason why I majored in Biology is because I wanted to go to medical school, become a doctor. However med school is ALOT of money & I already have all these student loans to pay. I kind of would just like to get a real job and start earning some money you know.

Matt - point away my friend. Id appreciate it. I went to one drug rep convention but just about everyone there had previous sales experience and what not. My resume sucks too, Ive only have bs jobs like supermarket checker, liquor stock boy etc...

~20 k / year in Canada...undergrad is like 5 k/year

Why can't you make it into med school? I'm afraid that kinda shit will happen to me if I don't make that leap. I never intended to stop at a bachelors anyway.

The best advice I would give to any younger person looking for career direction is to find someone older and accomplished that they can work with / for.

even if you have to get them coffee and do bitch work to get their attention, fucking do it. Look for opportunities to learn, rather than to make money, in your early career years. The money will come, when you have knowledge.

When you say 20k/year, you're including housing, food, books, bills right ? Because tuition alone is barely 3500$

This is really great advice. I am not set to graduate until May (BBA in Econ) but I managed to stumble upon a great job w/o even looking for it already. I started off doing really low-end work in HR a year ago but have since moved into Finance and been doing some finance/marketing/ops analysis along with some competitive review and some planning.

I'd recommend that anybody who is still in school find a way to get some experience doing what you want to do eventually even if you have to volunteer to do it . I had no idea what I was getting myself into but I got lucky and I won't have to search for a job when I graduate :)

My best advice would be to know what it is that you want to do. If you want to be a doctor, do it. It's tempting to go out and get some decent money now rather than continue to buckle down and be poor but what about 10 years down the road? What about 20? If it's something that you really wanted and you gave it up for some short term financial security I can tell you that you will look back with regret. That's a good acid test for many decisions, how will you look back upon your action years from now. Of course, the real crux is knowing yourself, what it is that you want and what you like to do. The importance of this cannot be overstated. You only live once - do not cheaply sacrifice your dreams.

mY WIFE IS IN MEDICAL SCHOOL RIGHT NOW AND SHE IS SUPPORTING US AND NONE OF US ARE WORKING . i DONT SEE ANY OF HER FRIENDS WORKING EITHER. IF YOU RELLY WANT MEDICAL SCHOOL THE LOANS THEY OFFER INCLUDE MONEY FOR LIVING EXPENSES AND MY WIFE ACTUALLY GETS THEM IN LUMP SUMS WHICH YOU CAN USE TO BUY A HOUSE OR SOMETHING AND THEN JUST KEEP PAYING IT WITH THE REST OF THE LOANS OR SPLIT IT WITH SOMEONE. mY WIFE OF COURSE IS OVER 25. i DONT KNOW WHAT LOANS WOULD BE OFFERED TO PEOPLE IN EARLY 20S IT MIGHT BE BASED ON PARENTS INCOME AND IF YOUR PARENTS ARE WEALTHY THEN THAT COULD SCREW YOU BUT IF YOUR POOR MEDICAL SCHOOL LOANS ARE THERE AND THEY ARE NOT ACADEMIC BASED EITHER. iT ACTUALLY HELPS OUT BECASUE ALL YOUR OTHER SCHOOL LOANS GO INTO DEFERMENT IF YOU GO TO MEDICAL SCHOOL

I agree. I'm from New England but I've been here for the last four years and will probably stick around for a while. The only thing I don't really like about it is I feel pretty isolated from other cities.

Southwest Airlines bor.

Anywhere, cheap.

I'm a Rapid Rewards member, lol.

Plus they have nonstop service from Nashville to Seattle, which is probably my favorite city.
