Really dumb deadlift question

I work out at home, and I want to start doing deadlifts. Thing is, I'm not exactly sure how to load the weights on the bar. I can imagine that if the bar is on the ground it gets hard to slide 45lb plates on the bar after you've put a few on. I realize this is probably a strange question, but any tips?
 
Get something to set the bar on? Perhaps 2 cinder blocks? You won't leave it on them for any long period of time, but you could pick it up and set it on there, load up, then proceed as normal. They have fancy equipment to scoop the bar up, and make it easier, but I imagine they are a little pricey.

Exactly, and this isn't a dumb question at all. For quite a while I strained with lifting one side of the bar up, awkwardly loading a plate with the other hand, then repeating the process on the other side until one day some nice person saw me struggling and gave me the above tip.
 
nothing wrong with using 2.5lbers... i do it all the time...

shit i used my 1lbers already too... ;)

that was a joke I heard on here a long time ago....the whole "whats the point of 2.5lbers?" answer with testosterone infusion "to get from 495 to 500"

don't worry....i'm sure many of us havent used the 2.5's for that purpose. they work well for banging out those little pins in adjustable squat racks though.
