raw egg in a protein shake!!

Hey, I'm kind of short on money right now, So I throw a raw egg into my bedtime protein shake( extra 6g's of protein ) does anyone think this is a mistake? anyone else do this here?

Save that 6 grams by cooking it. In the place of...add some all-natural peanut butter to the shake instead as it is close to the equivalent to that of 1 egg, and it will taste better.

Eggs are more easily digested when COOKED. After they have been denatured or broken down, the refolding process of the protein's amino acids are more susceptible to enzymatic breakdown. This is especially the case with eggs. The new structural refoldings makes it easier for enzymes to reach the amino acid residues.

BMJ,
I didn't know that. That's informative. If someone liked raw eggs in a shake, would Egg Beaters be a better option. Does pasteurization improve digestability?
Thanks

I have heard of anti trypsic factors in raw eggs that prevent them to be fully absorbed
Those factors are denaturalized by heating the eggs

I got sick twice from eating raw egg whites...I had the shits and cramps. You better watch out for food poisoning. I cook mine now and have had no problems!!

Food poisoning ..... Salmonella....

yes, you'd better be careful with raw eggs
If you get salmonella you may lose a few pounds

Eggs Beaters would only really benefit in that it takes out the chances of getting salmonella poisoning. The yolk is usually replaced with some sort of vegetable oil, thus leaving the egg white still available. Cooking the egg white will also apply to my previous statement in that it will be more easily digested and absorbed by its increasing amino acid residues to digestive enzymes.

What i would do is blend up whey powder, eggwhites and the peanut butter and then make pancakes and eat them before bed. MMMMMM.....

Not a good idea unless you want to get sick. Cooked egg whites instead, raw eggs are not digested very well.
