Rant: Worst arm day ever!

Madd Hatter

New member
Been doing 5x5 the last few weeks, been lifting for over 3 years, and today (Bi's and Tri's) totally blew.

First up was CG Bench 5x5, cranked em out easily enough, not feeling anything in my triceps.

Went over to Standing Curls 5x5, and after a couple reps w/ 80 my right wrist was absolutely killing me. I have paperthin wrists, and they always hurt, but this was bad. I decided since BICEPS are supposed to go out first, I'd go over and do sitting incline curls 5x5 and make standing 2x8-10.

So did the incline curls (musta cheated, didn't feel it), did my dips, then came back to standing curls, where I couldn't even make 8 with 65 lbs because of my wrists. WTF. I just said F it and did drop set hammer curls and finally got a small pump in my biceps. Did my Tri pushdowns, then similarly pathetic preacher curls. After it all I felt no muscle fatigue, per usual. All I ever get after any workout is a bicep pump or sore calves.

Didn't help that a 17 year old who's mathematically eliminated from lifting as long as I have was CG benching 80 more pounds than I was, and curling 90 easy. He was about 6ft, looked to be 210lbs of shredded muscle. Now I know the rule of not caring what anyone else is lifting or even looking at anyone else, but with the day I was having, it just thoroughly depressed me. I don't know which is more pathetic. The fact that I have nothing to show for years of lifting besides pecs that just show under a shirt or that I continue to put in the time and money thinking something's gonna change.

I feel your pain, man.

I start every arm session with drop set alternating curls (3 drops/ 1 set/30 reps total) just to get me going. after that, everthing feels effective.

Try some crazy stuff, high reps, cable preachers, whatever you can think up. supinate, don't supinate, hammer, there are lots of ways to confuse your biceps into responding.

Keep the faith.

It might sound lame, but never give up. You're still young and you still have years of lifting ahead of you. It's pretty easy to get discouraged when you have one bad work out or two or you feel like shit for a week, but progress doesn't happen over night.

Go back and look at pictures of yourself 5 years ago and that should show you have far you've come and how much your work has amounted to. You'll get where you want to be as long as you stick with it.
