In photograpy.... At what age did you spark interest?

Do you think 7 is too young? My daughter has always loved taking pictures and for the most part does a pretty good job. Is there a such thing as just having the nack for photography? ;)

My 5 year old daughter has a constant supply of disposable cameras.

She goes through about 36 exposures a week.

She loves it.

I am as well. 7 is not too young since the age of digital camera's don't have to print everything she takes a pic of. I have an art background as well as taking photography in HS and part of my post secondary education.

I have a digital now, so I let her take pics of what ever it is that interest her and we go thru them and save them. She does take pics of some weird things though...lol. I have one pic which odd but amazing clarity and focus good lighting and but its of the Oscar in my fish tank LOL...

I just let her have fun with it :)

She has been asking for a camera of her own just not sure what to get or where to start.

superqt, did you start in HS? I'd love to enroll her in some form of summer classes but Im not even sure if they offer it at such a young age

Just got a new digital camera, so I gave the 4mpx one to the boys, has 512mb card in it so they can go wild. Whenever it fills up, we dump it and check out the art. VERY cool how they perceive the world.

My little girl loves shots of feet and toes right now.

And she'll do close ups of things that are unidentifiable.

Pictures of a leaf, bugs, pictures of pictures... all sorts of weirdness.

I agree with QT let her have her own camera, this will help her get creative.
As she gets older her skills will develope.

At her age best to get a digital as an SLR are a bit complicated I would wait tell she is 9 or 10 to get her on of those. Get her and old school fully manual one then with a book on photography so she can understand shutter speed, apature, etc and the effect they have on your pics.

Thanks QT :) Any suggestions on a book?

Popular photography is a great start, worth every penny for a subcription.

Get her a digital camera, (Cheaper than processing film)
Then she can take pics to her hearts content, also make sure it has manual, shutter, apature, and focus adjustments for the creative side in her. Some fully automatics have both!

Thank you darlin :bigkiss:

Also invest in some extra long life rechargeable batteries & Charger as a digi-cam will eat them up Juice wise. That way she will already have fully charged batteries on hand when needed.

Total cost less than $30.00 at best buy.

Hmmm.....lots of pros and cons to an avid interest in photography. I would encourage the hobby since shooting digital doesn't cost very much though you will print pictures.

Do not encourage the profession. I doubt there will be much demand for photographers when everybody has a 60 MB digital camera. I am hoping they hit a wall soon and consumer cameras don't get much better.

Then they need me. People already think they are fully qulaified to shoot their friends wedding with their $300 digicam.
