rack deads, just for fun

they are not in my current program, but i tried them anyway after all the speed work.

i went up to 500 for 1 rep with the bar right below my knees. that was my limit, it felt good, but rough at the same time, then i held it for about 15 seconds.

good shit!

agreed. rack deads translate pretty well into strength off the floor.

i don't know as though rack deads translate so well to off the floor strength.

the effectiveness of the rack pull is where you are failing in the lift, and where you do the rack pull from. i.e. if you failing mid shin, doing rack pulls from above the knee isn't going to help you get past your sticking point. but if your sticking point is at knee level, then pulling from mid shin, it will help you.

exactly, i pull from a low rack setting & they helped me get past a sticking point on my regualr deads. The downside is, its very easy to overtrain your lower back w/rack deads due to the higher weight that can be lifted.

I like to do them when I'm ready to set a new goal for myself: gives you a taste of what it's like to pull with heavier weight than your used to.

Then it's back to the platform and speed drills because I'm seriously weaker in the first stage of the lift. :(

I did those on wednesday, went up to 500lbs also. Hadn't done them in months, felt pretty good.

Cheers,

I did 585 a few weeks ago. The first week I just did a lockout and was stunned that I managed a 6-plate lockout. The next week I pulled it from knee-height and that was hard work. It wasn't moving without straps.

the bottom is my weak point, i just like rack deads, even though its a short range of motion, the heavy ass weight will still get ya!

ill hit these for 2 more weeks and try romanian deads, never done those before, or pulling off a block, rough...

ive hit a 640 from knee level with just chalk, 675 with straps.

i have a strong lockout, and am strong off the floor, but have trouble with transitioning to the lockout. its really irritating cause i should have a much bigger pull.

Im currently using heavy chains to build my speed, seems to be working well, last workout i did 335lbs.+160lbs of chains for 5x5. Very difficult but i can feel a big difference when pulling without them. 405 for 8 was easy, could have done 11-12 atleast, but heavy weight and high reps dont mix for deadlifting so i stopped.
