Re: Re: Racial Profiling... Good One!!
Believe it or not, but I agree here. There are millions of Muslims (yes, Muslims, not "Muslim-Americans") in the world, yet a small fraction are involved in these terrorist activities.
Now, don't count your chickens before they hatch, Ryan, I am in no way completely discrediting what dballer said. He is correct about one important thing - why are high school drop-out airline security screeners performing "random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, Secret Service agents who are members of the President's security detail and 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips" while letting turban-clad, long-bearded Arab men waltz through undisturbed?
The problem here is NOT that Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40 are being racially profiled - the problem is that they are being IGNORED in order to avoid claims of racial profiling. We have airport "security" screeners searching old ladies and fondling attractive young women "by accident" while Osama bin Laden himself could probably walk through a security checkpoint wearing one of those plastic glasses/rubber nose & moustache disguises and no one would be the wiser.
My solution? Screeners should be able to search EVERYONE who walks through an airport security checkpoint; however, they should not be able to search anyone without probable cause.
What is probable cause?
* Person has a huge carry-on bag.
* Person wearing very baggy clothes that could conceal a weapon.
* Person sets off a metal detector.
* Person acting unusually (looking at screeners a lot... hands shaking... nervous, etc)
* Person with 3 ft beard walking around in typical Muslim attire chanting praises to Allah.
I believe in equality, but I heartily oppose stupidity.
