So what are you suggesting? that we only single out young muslims at airports? Not only would that be unconstitutional, it would be humiliating and would foster more ill feelings towards Muslim-Americans.

Hitler also enjoyed singling out particular groups, America is beyond that, or at least it should be.

The point is that only arabian men ages 17-40 commit these crimes. Just like only men with penises commit rape, or only homeless people commit vagrancy, etc.

We wouldn't be singling them out, we'd be applying intelligent screening methods based on statistical analysis.

And Dballer left out Richard Reid, the muslim man between age 17-40 who tried to blow his shoes up.

polarpixie--you are so right. My mom is about 63, looks like a grandma, and always complains about being singled out for the "random" screenings. She's just like, stop with the bullshit, search the scary looking people and maybe a couple of the normal looking ones, and be done with it. Little old white grandmas do not carry bombs, knives, etc.

Instead of chasing down Muslims in airports and behaving not only unconstitutionally and "Hitleresque" why not get at the real problem----our dependence on foreign oil, our relentless support of Israel, and rampant poverty throughout the Middleeast region.

Those of you who have previously appeared to be strict constructionists of the United States Constitution are now contending that it will suffice to single out individuals simply because of his or her race-----something specifically forbidden by the Equal Protection Clause to the United States Constitution. If you are going to preach for strict constructionism to the Constitution at least be consistent!

Hypothetically, if the government were to single out Muslims at airports, you will still be left with other threats. You shut terrorists out of one avenue of terror, they will somehow, find other avenues. (whether biological, exploding tunnels, pesticides, etc). The way to solve terrorism is not through racial-profiling at airports, but through solving the ills addressed above----providing aid to poor nations, giving the Palestianians the occupied territories and finally looking to alternative sources of energy....

If you want the right to fly on a plane then you naturally give up a few of your own rights. Example, when you go into public you forfeit the right to bear arms (unless you have a permit), also you give up the right of searching in some public places, yes being patted down at a stadium or club comes to mind.... They want to fly then they needed to be searched, fucking search me as long as it makes other safe go right the fuck ahead.

Example.......you give up a right to free speech, as has been brought up many, many times, if you log onto some boards that don't allow that.

If you are against being searched then you must be hiding something right?

I think this 'random search' process is almost completely ridiculous and a waste of time for airline/airport workers and passengers. It is obviously an effort to be politcally correct and to avoid fostering ill-feelings amongst particular ethnic groups. Well, screw that!!! I want the damn airlines to be efficient, focus their efforts, and nab the bad guys. Not dilly-dally and pulling little 5'2 me out of the line and making me feel like a criminal because I am carrying a bottle of water that could potentially be gasoline, so who knows what other secret weapons I am harboring, in their half-assed effort to be polite and PC and pretend they are doing a good job for god's sake. I don't think they need to worry too much about fostering ill-feelings in the Muslim community because most of them already harbor it.

you implied that race was the only factor. And it isn't. Race & sex are the factors, and they are factors because they are reliable litmus tests of 'who is likely to be a terrorist and who isn't'.
