Many of you vets know this, but for you fellow novices, this will help...
I just finished my fist cycle and I didn't realize any gains during the first few weeks. I was on a very low carb diet, but eating plenty of protein and healthy fasts (supplementing flax etc...)
Mustang18 recommended to me early on that I get plenty of carbs post-work out, but I ignored his advice. I was too worried in my carbophobia about gaining fat. I should have listened to him.
I finally added more carbs to my diet towards the end of the cycle and quickly added some muscle weight.
From my research I found the important roll of insulin in muscle gains and realized that the low-carbs were preventing me from gaining muscle by keeping insulin levels low.
I've heard it said that you can go low carb in the morning, but that you must get plenty of carbs post work out to spike the insulin a bit for growth. My experiece supports that theory.
Anyway, thought I'd pass this on for you fellow low carb eaters. I'm starting to reconsider the whole super low carb thing anyway. It did help me lose some weight in the beginning, but I think this diet is not condusive of an anabolic state.
Hope this helps.
