quick question about speeding ticket & insurance rates

I got a ticket, going 69 in a 55 zone today. I live in indiana. Have no previous citations or violations of traffic law. I intend to pay the ticket rather than go to court.

Question: how, if anyway, will one ticket, with no previous speeding tickets, affect my insurance rates.

Depends on your age. If you are younger, late teens/early 20s, expect your rates to go up, even for one ticket.

How old are you? If you are young, you're fucked. If you intend to pay the ticket, then why don't you hire one of those ticket lawyers to go to court for you?

I did and after the lawyer fee and court costs, I ended up paying a couple of dollars less than what the ticket hit me for. The only difference was that I did not have to attend traffic school, got no points on my license, and my insurance will not go up.

I'm told that the judge cannot require court costs for greater than the amount of the ticket, so at worst, you'd be paying the ticket and getting no penalties as opposed to paying the ticket and getting every penalty.

at least go to court and asked for it to be reduced... most insurance companies will give you one tkt if the violation is less than 10mph over the speed limit... or ask for a PJC

i am guilty of speeding though. and i am 22.

I just read on the net that if i take it to court, the officer probably won't show up, so the ticket might get dismissed. Is that my best option. to show up at court. Will there be any extra penalties for trying to contest a ticket (i know that in the criminal justice system, going to trial will get you a more severe penalty than pleading no contest. I don't know if it is the same for traffic penalties). Indiana law is probably different than florida law.

Where does one find a traffic ticket attorney?

what is a PJC

some guy in college gets tickets all the time, i'll ask him for advice.

Do you have the option to go to traffic school? It's like a one day class that once complete they drop the points from you're insurance. If you have the option, check it out. You still have to pay for the class in lieu of paying for the ticket, but at least they don't hit your insurance.

yeah. Under indiana law §140 IAC §1-4.5-7, you can shave 4 points off your driving record if you attend defensive driving courses, which are available on the net, video or class.

I think i have my goal planned out. i'd like to find an attorney first as he would know more about this.

Plead not guilty, hope the officer doesn't show up. If he does, try to plea bargain down the ticket (if such a system exists). if that fails, take defensive driving.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't be caught dead in court without a lawyer no matter how minor the offense. Better to be safe than stupid.

i know. There is no way i won't get a lawyer, unless the lawyer himself wants like $500 to contest a $60 ticket.

In indiana, 1-15 mph above the speed limit is 2 points. Defensive driving takes off 4 points.

Ahhhhh, Indiana... Spent some time running a small company there (Terrible Haute / Vincennes / INDY) - I believe I received approximately 11 tickets, and had two suspensions (all speeding - the suspensions where because I refused to recognize I had to pay some of the tickets)..

Good luck up in corn country, they love to give tickets!

Oh... did I mention the 11 tickets where in 4 years? :D
