question re: pop ups, ad blocking

A while back there was a thread where someone posted a link for a list of IP addresses that you could enter into your computer to completely block ads altogether (the windows on regular web sites just display the red broken x from a pic that can't download)and speed surf time as well.

Anyone remember that location? I just got a new computer and am trying to re-enter all the custom stuff I had...What a pain!

Panicware's Popup Stopper is the bomb though, and the regular, stripped-down version is better than pro. If you want pro, it's on Kazaa or I could get it to you...

thanks.

Hey now if everyone stops blocking pop ups and banners there goes my income I sell that shit online. Funny thing one of my clients is running a pop up and is advertising their pop up blocker. Serioulsy if everyone stops blocking ads there goes the free internet, then you will have to pay subscriptions to all the sites, like you do with porn sites now. Ads are a good thing!!!!!

Not when they are deliberately designed to interfere with your computer's operation by opening up new, unclosable windows, floating across the screen in front of information you are wanting to look at (ESPN, anyone?), and leaving cookies on your machine all without your authorization.

Your comment is like saying that postage would be more expensive without all that fucking junk mail crammed into my box every day or that my phone service would be even more expensive without telemarketers.

BTW, ads don't keep internet sites afloat, the revenue from ads (except on the browsers/search engines) is mainly just "gravy." More and more viable sites are finding that internet advertising is vastly over-valued and continued viability is dependent on being able to sell and market products or co-marketing with other sites.

No that is not what I am saying, I am saying there are many sites out there that rely soley on advertising dollars to keep them afloat, manysites. I am not saying it is a good thing but it is not a bad thing. What would happen if ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox all stop selling advertising? Who is going to bare the cost to support these networks? The viewers that's who. Same goes for online advertising. I have been in this industry for the past five years, I came in it's ahy day and I am still in it. I know all the arguments for and agains online advertising. You have told me nothing new. I could go onto any industry news site and find an opposing argument to yous, be that as it may. I was just actually trying to bring so lefity to this thread with my previous statement. I was just bored here at work selling my pop ups so I came on here.
