Question on calf raises...

DZLS

New member
i don't know if it's my foot placement, or what, but whenever i do calf workouts, (be it seated, standing, leg press machine), I get a pain in the arches of my feet before the muscle seems to get worn out...

it's not so much a "pain" as a burn in teh arch, but it keeps me from doing more reps...

Is this normal, or are my feet pplaced incorrectly...?

when i do seated raises, i place the pad right at the knee, and have the balls of my feet on the platform...

standing and others, i stand on the balls of my feet...

Just something that you will get used to (hope that you've not been training for too long!) Mine still hurt quite a bit after 14 years of training. It's a bit like sore hands (like the tiny muscles in your hands beteeen the bone) from curling and rowing, or like when your forearms cant grip anymore. Do the exercises for long enough and the pain will become more managable, and the muscles that you are targeting will eventually become the ones that fail first.

Incidentally, if you are wearing soft-soled shoes that bend then you are going to feel it more in your foot than you would if they were toughened.

i wear a basketaball sneaker for training... they have a pretty stiff sole on them...

make sure you have the ball of your foot up on the platform and not your arch. if you are too far out onto your toes(not enough ball) then you will feel a ton of work in your flexors (toes).
