Question on bets rep range for most muscle gain

I have read people say to go 5x5 on all compounds with the same weight for all 5 sets, and just add 5lbs once per week to the exercise, and that will give me solid muscle gains. That to me sounds so alien or different than I am used to. I am used to ramping up the weight each set, start off low weight on 1st set, and the 5th set is the heavy ball buster. Never tried the same weight for all 5 sets.

And why do I read some of these articles online and muscles mags that interview pro body builders, and they say that the rep range for adding most muscle mass to the body is in the 8 - 10 reps range for 4 - 5 sets each compound exercise ? Never mentioning a 5x5 routine ?

And if they are doing 8 - 10 reps each, what about weight for all 4 or 5 sets, are they ramping it up higher each set, or all sets the same weight and add weight to the bar just once a week like for 5x5 ?

Thanks

It just gets confusing when I read so many different ideas about mass building and best way to add muscle through hypertrophy seems to be the 8 -10 range per these articles. And also of course a good diet has a ton to do with it obviously.

IMO...switching it up is the best way.

3 months 5 reps, 3 months 8-10 reps. 3 months 6 -8 reps...imo its time and consistancy...and not relying on a spotter to lift the weight for you.

this is def one of those subjects where u will have to give it time and figure out what works best for yourself. it all depends on what kind of muscle fiber u are, to how u respond to rep/set schemes.
