Question for women in their early 30's or older

Recently I've been experiencing migraines about once a month. My doctor isn't too concerned because they don't happen often enough to send up any red flags. He has not been able to find anything physiologically wrong with me to explain them. The problem is I AM CONCERNED cause it's annoying as hell.

The reason I'm being specific about the age is because I'm curious if they could possibly be hormonal. I suspected stress at one time, but not so much anymore.

Have any of you (or for the men reading this... your sig others) experienced a similar problem around this age?

If so, what was done to alleviate this problem? Did they go away on their own?

Do you still experience them? If so, how old are you? How long have you been suffering from them?

Thanks.

The short answer to your question is probably yes, with reservations. I do not believe in purely "hormonal headaches" I believe that what happens is it's a combination of headaches AND food intolerance (which cannot be tested for, as opposed to allergy, which you can). IMHO, headaches are the bodies response to toxins, and consuming food and/or drink that we no longer tolerate create a situation that is vaguely toxic.

First things first, you need to keep a "headache diary." It's like an exercise/diet diary, but you also keep track of headaches and menstrual cycle, it's most important to keep track of food/medicine/obvious hormonal fluctions in reference to pinning down migraine problems.

But seriously, don't let them freak you out. Head pain caused by something that's OMG bad, you don't get that once a month, and it's never by itself, it's always accompanied by some other problems.

I've never really experienced "migraines" -- headaches I do get are usually sinus or stress-related.

That sucks tho. Hope you find the source & they stop happening.

Are you on birth control or on the birth control patch? If you are I would be very careful, and switch birth control (especially if it is the patch.)

I used to get them a couple of a days before my period and I was in bed for 2 days they were so bad.

One is was from the birth control patch

two is was from stress and seriously not drinking enough water.

I haven't gotten one for a long time now (knock on wood) but I went off birth control completly.

funny you say this.. I'm just a month short of 30.. and recently have been getting horrible migraines about once a week... I have been told its usually due to our eating, drinking habits... avoiding the 4 'c's... caffeine, chocolate, citrus and cheese... and right now I'm just trying to figure out what I eat on the days i get a migraine, to see if its that.. I do not want to get into the habit of popping pills that reduce the pain but do nothing to fix the problem

I know this sounds silly but it really helps me. Lie down and really do deep breathing when you get migraines, totally focus on breathing through your belly. I find it doesn't totally take away the pain but takes it down a notch so it is a little more bearable and easier to fall asleep.

A ice pack on the pack of the neck helps me when I get one....which has only been about 3 times in my life
