Most people just seem to be able to shed those last few pounds of fat much easier on a low-carb diet. I'm not sure if it's something physiological or if it's simply that a low-carb/high to moderate fat diet keeps you fuller and less likely to eat more. Crum's diet is simply strict and you aren't supposed to cheat on it. Following any good diet strictly will get you results, but some diets that have it all layed out for you are easier to follow.
Most people can get below 10% bodyfat with carbs in their diet but if you can't handle the hunger then switch to low-carbs. You never really know until you try if you can do it or not. Personally I never go over 33% carbs(isocaloric) while dieting due to the feeling of satiation. I simply can't get full eating too many carbs, the fat helps to keep me going between meals.
If you like the idea of lowering carbs but don't want to go as low as Crum's then you can try mine. I allow 100g of carbs daily and have 2 refeed days(1 half and 1 full) built into the diet. I got great results off of it and others are liking it to.
