how do you know what party a actually owe's their lawyer though?

In a divorce BOTH parties are privy to what the other's legal fees are - the sharing of this information is part of how to come to a settlement as DEBT is a major issue.

If party A owes say 1$ then party B owes 5$.

So if Party A whose attorney has a HIGHER HOURLY RATE then who would you say has THE SMARTER ATTORNEY? The one who charges LESS but encourages thier client with all kinds of superfluous bullshit that THEY KNOW the court will not give TWO SHITS ABOUT but will JACK UP THIER BILLABLE HOURS or the one who charges a bit more, but lays the smackdown on thier client when they ring the phone or walk into the office all fired up by telling them, "It don't matter none ANYWAY - THE LAW is THE LAW so either take my advice and take a chill pill or take your retainer and go to the person who gave you THE MISINFORMATION that fired you up in the first place."?

Or should I rephrase the question and say WHO IS THE DUMBER CLIENT that is SCREAMING, "PUH-LEASE!!! TAKE MY CHILDREN'S MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET AND PUT IT INTO YOUR OWN EVEN THOUGH YOUR ADVICE AIN'T GONNA GET ME NUTHIN' BUT THE JUDGE PISSED OFF AT ME AND THE END RESULT WILL BE THE SAME - MY EX WILL GET HALF - NO MORE/NO LESS."

Sometimes people get a distorted idea of what pride is and it causes them to do stupid things. All because their ego has been hurt, whether real or imagined.

If you use a lawyer, you get fleeced. Car salesmen, bankers and insurance rank right up there, too. Politicians own their own cess pool and deserve it. Its simple. It is like shopping, find the best bang for the buck. If you go into a shit market, pick the biggest turd. It sounds like that turd is underpaid, though, if the lesser paid council wins more.

Yea, that is what I am thinking!

To give you an idea of how mediation went between Party A and Party B....

Party B came out of the starting gate with a piece of paper with little handwritten notes about whom they borrowed X amount of dollars from (we are NOT talking about 50$ ) then IMMEDIATELY proceeded to hammer Party A with, "Who's pic do you have on the fridge.... the latest (person) that you have been fucking?"

The mediator then layed the smackdown: Is Party A having sex with these people IN FRONT OF THE CHILDREN? Is the picture of which you speak of a sexually explicit? Are your children naked, emaciated and bruised? Are the walls smeared with dogshit? THEN THE JUDGE ISN'T GOING TO CARE!..... NEXT!

After the session when Party B had left the mediator then told Party A, "I realize that you are being screwed but I couldn't say that in front of Party B as I am supposed to remain impartial, but unless you can prove that Party B is hiding money...."

Ahhh see - it isn't that the winner is LESSER PAID - THEY JUST HAVE LESS BILLABLE HOURS AS THEY DO NOT FEEL THE NEED TO TRY AND FLEECE THIER CLIENT WITH SUPERFLUOUS BULLSHIT AND TONS OF PAPERWORK THAT THE COURTS IGNORE ANYWAY!

There is VERY LITTLE money to go around and there are several children involved. It would seem to me that Party A's attorney's only crime seems to be that he may actually have a soul.
