Question for anyone who bakes *deserts* (clarification for the stoners)

OK, so last week I made a thread about a pie I made that I came up with mostly on my own. The crust was entirely original and the filling was a somewhat tweaked version of strawberry bavarian with fruit puree folded in with gelatin, beaten egg whites, and heavy whipping cream (whipped). It came out pretty good but I want to tweak it some more and I was wondering if there was a way to add melted chocolate at the end for a kind of marble like effect without killing the fluffiness of the filling. I love cooking but I'm still a reltive newb when it comes to baking, and I've only been making pie for a few months now and the alst one was the first that didn't come out of a cookbook. So would adding the chocolate after the whipped cream er...deflate it? Have no effect on texture? What if I melted chocolate and sugar in with the whipping cream, then chilled and whipped it and folded THAT in?

you're about to disappoint alot of people with this thread

How so? There isn't anything remotely innuendo in my thread title. It's pretty clear cut that I'm asking a question about cooking, and I'm actually looking for a serious answer. Someone who's opinion matters to me gave me crap about my other thread on the subject so I made a point to be completely straightforward this time.

post this in the womens forum. we don't know anything about baking except for our own brain cells.....

and i'm sure as hell covergrl69 doesn't know how to bake LOL

It's off topic...meant mostly for the women to answer, but there are enough that post here that I had some hope. Plus doesn't needto cook? That's different than baking, yeah, but I thought he might know enough to tell me whether melted chocolate would deflate the filling. Anyway, I give up. I'll just try it and find out for myself. :whatever:

fats generally make egg whites deflate. You would have to fold it in very little to keep your pie fluffy. I would probably opt to mix in chocolate shavings or bits or top it with ganache.

A useful post! I love you, I switch back to team heather.

I concurr with Ms PregoRae. Ganache is the way to go I am thinkin. Let us know how it turns out. Sounds REAL YUMMY.

I love to bake but I haven't very much in years as I haven't had my girls much. :(

I would bake for the Old Grump but then I would end up eating waaaaaaaay too much and methinks I would make Ms PregoRae look like a stick figure.... and that is sans the in-the-oven-bun!

I'll probably give it a go this weekend. Fingers crossed...baking is still slightly intimidating for me.

Cooking is all in your tongue while baking is in your fingertips.... does that make sense?

My Mama would make the most unbelievable cakes in a woodburning stove - no joke. She never used any measuring implements past a pinch, the palm of her hand and the wooden spoon.... and her food was ALWAYS amazing. Not even my mother or any of her sisters could bake/cook like her.

That woman was a god... no exaggeration.

agreed chocolate shavings are a good go... but if you wanted to cheat you could use some hershey's chocolate syrup drizzled over it... :)

In fact, I think it did the oposite of deflating Jack's pants!

It appears Jack was folding them in, and they definately looked fluffy.

I think Jack would also opt to mix in chocolate shavings.

I doubt Jack knows wtf ganache is, but I bet he would top it with it.

that's why I called it a "cheat"!! I also like to go from scratch, which makes a huge difference when you travel because you can't always find normal cheaters stuff... hell where I'm at right now I can't even find brown sugar!!! but my rhubarb crisp came out just as tasty as ever!! :) they are fairly simple anyways!!

LOL...

You can take store-bought cheesecake from the bakery, wrap it in spring roll wrappers from the grocery and deep fry it.

Very easy way to get it. =-)

Reminds me of cooking while camping. I love going camping. Why is it that steak cooked on a hot stone tastes SO good when you're in the middle of the woods?

I cheat on sauces and stuff sometimes when I have time constraints or don't feel like going all out just to feed myself. But if I am making a point to cook for someone, or I am going to bake something that's bound to take me a few hours anyway, I'm gonna do it right. :)

I know what ya mean!! but I'm wayyy to picky about my sauces... usually... however it's amazing what a lil A1 can do to a steak (that somebody else cooked, mine are perfect off the grill!! :Chef: haha!!) I'm actually about to go cook up some mighty tasty hawaiian style teriyaki chicken.... mmmm mmm!!

I would love to have a man who can cook and dance. My two favorite things. Do they exist?

Bleeeeeech, I'd never ruin a steak with A1.

When I said cheat on sauces I meant like...I'll take cream of mushroom soup and add stuff to it for a white sauce on pasta rather than starting entirely from bottom up.

Well my Old Grump was trained as a chef (though he never used the craft professionally - he needed the training in order to access the kitchens at the resorts he would size up for the Prime Minister of the Bahamas... Damn, why couldn't I have known him when he had THAT position?!?!) so in the year since I have known him I don't think that I have even boiled water for him. He doesn't bake. He says he HATES to bake, but I love to. Problem is that for now, it's just the two of us so I am too depressed...

As for dancing... He has mad kitty-licken skillz so does that count? :qt:

mad kitty licking skills pretty much trumps anything, in my book. If a guy can do that well, I'm a puppy dog...lol.

I used to think the same thing until I had to do some steak dinners with a team I coached... and those steaks were ruined alredy!! :worried: like I said not my steaks!! yeah I'm with ya on the sauces... that can be a nice quicky!! I'll cheat on certain elements but I really take pride in being able to do most of my recipes from scratch.... and alot from memeory!! though I find myself having to recheck something from time to time!!

hmmm I'll get out on the dance floor... but I'd say my cooking skills far outweigh my dancing skills... my brother however is fuckin badass on a dancefloor and he can do it all from breakin' to country, so in comparison to him I'm shamed... but fuck it... I have fun!!!

Any woman who says that she "can take or leave" a man w/mad kittylicken skillz NEVER had her kitty licked properly.

My favorite sauce to make for steaks is a roasted red pepper sauce.....mmmmmmmmmm.

I season and cook the steak to medium with cracked peppercorns heavy on one side and plate it with the red pepper sauce underneath and a pat of butter or a bit of gorgonzola on top.

It's goooooooood.

Have the grump make you some. It is EASY to make. Puree up some roasted red peppers, a bit of olive oil, salt, pepper and whatever fresh herbs float your boat and heat it up. It looks and tastes very gourmet but is so simple.

He brought home some ribeyes the other day. I haven't had much of an appetite lately but the whole roasted red pepper/gorgonzola cheese thing has got me hungry.

He made sauteed shrimp and scallops and put them on a nice bed of spring mix with just a small handfull of some long-grained rice du jour for me last night.

The steak sounds good... I'll ask him to make me some.

oooohhhhhhhh....

you're speaking my language. I'm helpless against kitty licking powers. It's like kryptonite.

I guess it was inevitable that no matter how straight forward I was, a thread about pie was bound to degenerate into a thread about kitty licking. But I didn't expect it from the women!!! :whatever:
