gout? A friend of mine has it, wants to start working out, wants to do it right, but with gout he must restrict his protein intake (according to what ive read and his doctor) from all sources. Anyone know anyone w/gout and what theyve done. Or have you heard of any type of supp or anything someone w/gout can do or take in order to increase protein intake & cause his gout to flare?

p.s. I know what it is, why its caused, and how to controle it, as does he obviously. Hes also on meds for it. Im asking this cuz I dont see a way to increase his protein intake. I thought someone here may have heard/read or know someone whos found at least a way to increase the intake if anything even a little bit.

Well - they used to think that a high protein intake led to the formation of crystals that would form in the joints, especially as the temp gets colder.

They think now that it may be caused, at least in part, by a high saturatedfat intake.(Which makes sense if you get a lot of protein from fatty sources).


My advice is to get a good whey or combo protein like the triple threat or human development technologies and supplement with a good source of mainly non-saturated fat sources like Omega 3's and 6's, Flax.
 
Some cases of gout can be prevented by controlling conditions that are strongly associated with gout, such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol. A proper diet would be a great start for your friend.
