Question about trying the 5x5 routine ?

I am thinking of switching my current workout to the 5x5 program. Right now I do a 3set 10-8-6 routine of like 10reps with a lighter weight, 8reps with a medium weight that I can not do any more, and then the final 3rd set is 6reps and I cant do a seventh. I have been doing this for like 5weeks and adding weight to each exercise every week, and it seems to be working ok, but I am not bulking up as fast as I would like

My goal is to add like 10lbs of muscle to the upper body only, I am 33yrs old, 5'10 165lbs right now and pretty toned from mountain biking, and snowboarding.

So what is the deal with the 5x5 program ? Are all 5sets done with the same weight, or is like the final fifth set done with a even heavier weight, and also what is the rest period needed between sets, like 60-90seconds ? So every set of 5reps means it is so heavy ya cant even do a 6th rep ?

1. Eat enough
2. Train with progression (weights go up)
3. Rest/Sleep
4. Repeat....


You can try the 5x5 but if the above is not in order dont expect miracles...how fast are you expecting to gain 10lbs?
